Stories and emotions aren't everything in games! :p Puzzle and logic games have always been strong--Tetris, for example, is basically just spacial reasoning. It's hard to make any sort of story or emotion out of four-block shapes (though I've seen some interesting attempts at ff.net!). It really hasn't changed since its original release, yet to this day people love it.
That's true, but those aren't the games you'll pay 50$ for (closer to 100$ after you buy all the DLCs) and feel that it was worth the investment 30+ hours later once you've saved the universe.
I've probably logged around a billion hours on Minesweeper, games like those get you with a sort of reward system, which makes the human brain go "YAAAAY" like a druggie. Best thing ever. XD
Did you hear about the game company (director) who was bemoaning the fact that the industry is going to suffer because with app games costing a couple of dollars no-one is going to want to pay 5-60$ for a videogame anymore? I fucking lol'd. If your 60$ videogames can't compete against app games you are seriously doing it wrong.
I was going to buy a PS3 when it was on sale to make up for my shoddy hour-count of gaming lately, but then Sony started pulling all that crap. :\ I am so confused what I should do.
If you've got a good gamin Pc I suggest buying mass Effect 1 and 2, ME1 is like ten dollars on bioware's site now, and i found a used copy of ME2 for PC for 25$ I'd suggest buying all the ME2 DLCs except Arrival, which was amazing shit and didn't fit in with the way the rest of the game played. But DLCs are loaded onto your comp directly and the mass Effect series takes up a LOT of space.
Hahaha, my gaming time is soooo down while at uni. So many ME 1 and 2 DLCs I need to download and play and can't. Damn you brother for wanting to play the Xbox too! D:
But yeah, a big aspect of gaming is the whole escapism element of it - getting away from your boring, stressful life and saving the universe or whatever. I don't think humans as a species will ever stop wanting that escapism - the grass is always greener, and so on - and gaming systems may develop, but I don't think we'll ever be beyond gaming.
I have heard good, but unspecific things about Portal 1 and 2. I think I need to go exercise my Google-fu and find out more :)
Yeah, the ME1 DLCs don't worry me so much, because they don't seem to be necessary to the game in any way, but I'd heard the ME2 ones were to act as bridges between 1 and 2?
I've already played LotSB, which was cool, because hey, Liara (and her ridiculous eyebrows). So Arrival's a no go then? :C

Nah, my stationary is crap and doesn't currently work, so no PC gaming for me.

DO NOT get Arrival for ME2, it makes me sad, and not in the "OH MY GOD OH MY GOD YOU TRAVESTY" good way Overlord did.
