Dear Yuletide Author,

Oct 16, 2012 22:09

Hello and thank you for writing for me. I know what a big, freaking deal Yuletide is. I know it comes at the height of nearly every major holiday season. The pressure is enormous. This is more than just the gift of a story, it's a gift of your time and creativity!

I am already incredibly grateful!

But you were looking for help with your story. Right. Moving on...

Here's some generalities that will help you even if you decide that my fandom specific advice isn't helpful:
- Feel free to write gen! I like shipping (take a look at my stories) but I like gen, too.
- If you do decide to ship, please no smut or explicit violence. I'd like to keep things in the PG-13/Teen range. (Unless I have somehow requested a gore-festy violent fandom in the time between me writing this letter and sign-ups being closed).
- No slash
- No incest
- Crossovers are fun. If you decide to do one, I'd prefer you cross my request with something I clearly already like based on what I've written or requested.
You may also want to peruse the tags on my stories, here and at FanFiction.net to see the kind of stuff I write. (Looking at the tag list here is probably faster.)

And here are fandom specific things:

My Secret Identity
Perhaps the first scifi/fantasy show I remember well, I have very fond memories of this one (i.e., I loved it lots). There isn't much wrong you can do here, to be honest. I'd like to see something Andrew-centric but that doesn't mean you have to abandon the other characters. I'd also like to see how Andrew copes with being super in the 21st Century's intrusiveness. It's an idea. Don't feel married to it. Whatever you write will bring me joy.

The Fall of Ile-Rien by Martha Wells
Martha Wells is one of my favorite authors, and this is one of my favorite series. I particularly like the random and unexpected relationship between Tremaine and Ilias. I also enjoy seeing Tremaine in Cinneth...how she fits in, how she doesn't, what she cares about b/c her adopted family cares about it, and what she could flying fig about. Then again, I also love Nicholas and her "uncles". You see I've left it pretty wide open. Preferably, I'd like to see either Tremaine or Nicholas as the featured. (As a random story idea, I've always been struck by the offhand comment about seeing Ilias dance, so if you can make that happen for me in a PG-13/Teen rating or lower that would be super awesome.)

Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
This is my favorite Jane Austen. I know lots of people have trouble with Fanny, and many actively dislike (if not hate) her. If you're on the stronger end of that scale, please don't write Fanny. It's the one sure way to make me unhappy, unless this is some role reversing AU in which she's the awful one and Mary Crawford's the good one...which is an idea. You'll see that I've requested Fanny. Again, if you just can't bring yourself to say anything nice about Fanny, please feel free to write about any one else and make Fanny a background/secondary so that you abide by the rules of Yuletide.

On the other hand, if you also like Fanny I'd love to see a Fanny/Edmund future-fic, or, heck, any Fanny related fiction. Do you know how hard it is to find someone who doesn't think Fanny is either a milquetoast doormat, or judgemental, or high-and-mighty? Let's be literary friends, please?

To be honest, Dear Author, you've already given me a great gift by agreeing to do this. Any fandom you decide to write for me will make me exceedingly happy. I'm so impressed with you already. I know how hard you've worked. I know how nerve-wracking it can be. Don't stress. HAVE FUN! I plan on having fun reading :D

dear author, yuletide
