Writer's Block: Awesome Openers

Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov had, simply, the best first chapter I have ever seen in my life. It's precise, eloquent, and beautiful. Made me want to write. Wow. That is very powerful. I openly admit I have never read the book, or even watched the film. I think it was done with Jermey Irons if I rememebr correctly.

I love the way her name is described, three steps down the palate, and to tap the teeth on the third.

I can see why you would find this very inspiring, and this sort of opening only makes you want to be able to capture that same kind of atmosphere.

Yes, that part was brilliant. I had to do it about fifty times as he described it. XD
