I'm surprised you didn't notice a 2-inch pencil in your shoe right away. I too wear shoes with extra-stability (anti-roll bars) and room for orthotics. I never regret the money spent on them although I wish they could be made in other styles besides 'sneakers'. No more cute shoes for me, alas.

It was up against the toe of the shoe. I wondered why my toes seemed to be against the end and it felt hard.

I think you can have custom shoes built with the orthotics, not cute as such, but a walking type shoe or dress shoe but they are hugely expensive. I really must see about getting the orthotics replaced this year, too. Supposed to do it every 2 years and it's been at least 4.
