Who referred you to the game?:

Character Name: Shatterstar

Canon source: Marvel Comics (X-Force, X-Factor)

Personality:I often refer to Shatterstar as a child, and this is because he lets himself be driven by his desires and emotions both because and despite the fact that he doesn't completely understand them.

His primary love is fighting. He was genetically engineered to be good at it and to love it. He has a lot of pride in his technique and therefore finds it in his position to criticize anyone else who picks up a sword (including characters in movies). Besides having an extremely critical eye, he's very gung ho about fighting. If he sees one brewing, he has to jump in. He doesn't care that he might start a brawl, or that there might not have been a fight at all, he just loves to fight and will do it unless someone he respects tells him not to. This goes doubly so when he's upset about something, and often in that situation he's less likely to listen when someone tells him to stop.

One of Shatterstar's defining characteristics is that he would never play dirty. He looks down on anyone who cheats during a fight or plays with people's feeling. He would call it being honourable, and while he doesn't get especially upset when someone is dishonourable, he is inclined to make sure they get what's coming. Usually this means he'll fight with a little more ferocity or he'll threaten to start a brawl.

In both of these regards he holds himself quite high. He'll (almost) never concede to being wrong unless the person who tells him so has proven themself to be greater than him in some way. At the same time, he won't go out of his way to let everyone know he's always right; he's content just to know he is and will correct anyone if they bring it up.

For the rest of this I'm probably going to be bringing up Rictor a lot. I generally try to avoid focusing on a character's relationship with one other character, but most, if not all of Shatterstar's canon development has been because of or directly related to Rictor. Rictor is basically the one who introduced him to his own humanity.

MOVING ON.

Having been raised just to fight, Shatterstar never faced his emotions or even knew what they were until he came to Earth and joined the X-Force. Even then, he was never forced to acknowledge or identify his feelings. He understood basic comraderie and friendship, but anything else was a foreign concept and he wasn't eager to deal with them. That is, of course, until he got to know Rictor. Their relationship was given the same treatment that all potentially homosexual relationships were given in the 90's - they had a whole lot of chemistry and subtext, but they were absolutely not a couple. With Rictor, Shatterstar naturally went through the motions that anyone would with a best friend, but went even further, even going so far as independently learning Spanish in case they needed to privately communicate in front of other people.

The beginning of their relationship has never even been outlined or given a timeframe, but I would assume that it went pretty smoothly and happened while they were in Mexico together. Shatterstar understood that people had intimate relations and probably even vaguely understood how the whole thing worked from watching a ridiculous amount of TV. It was pretty easy for him to have a more intimate relationship with someone when they were alone together like that and there were no real emotional distractions.

He understands that he wants to be with Rictor and he enjoys spending time with him but he says himself that now that he understands that he has a sexuality and certain feelings, he's overwhelmed by them and is inclined to go with his instincts rather than stop and think about what they mean or how they might affect other people. This means, in general, he will sleep with someone, man or woman, if he feels the urge to and the option presents himself. He doesn't stop to think about his relationship with Rictor, or how his relationship with that person might change, he just knows he wants to. This goes for other emotions too - the most notable of which in current canon would be jealousy. Whenever someone threatens to get between him and Rictor (or anyone he feels strongly about, as the case may be), he tends to get very short with people and be more likely to pick fights without knowing why or even being aware of it. He doesn't even know that he's mad and would probably even deny it if anyone suggests he is.

The only thing he does know about his feelings is that he has a lot of them and he doesn't know what to do with them. For this reason he has turned to someone he trusts - Rictor - to help him and explain to him what he's experiencing and why. This is basically where he's at at the point I'm pulling him from (right before he learns about Rahne being pregnant) and he will probably be developing a much better understanding of what he's feeling as I go along, but it'll all be built on the way he's learned in canon so far.

History: Wikipedia!

Strengths:+ He is pretty much a superhuman in every sense of the word. He's faster, he's stronger, he heals faster, he even has superhuman balance.

+ He's an expert swordsman and also he's quite good at every type of hand-to-hand combat there is. Basically, if it's a way to kill someone, he can do it very well.

+ He's also a mutant! In typical Marvel fashion, his power isn't defined very well, but basically he can create shockwaves through his swords. He doesn't do this very often because it drains his energy too much and he'd rather preserve it to just beat people up with his swords the natural way.

+ He can teleport. To teleport he needs an anchor - a person he is "connected" to - to picture the place they want to go in their mind, and then he can create a portal to that place by crossing his swords and focusing. He can't lose focus or the portal will close. The extent of the "connection" has never been clarified, but it seems to be people he has slept with (though it's never explicitly stated whether he slept with Layla or not so it could be just basic intimacy) or people he shares some sort of familial bond with (like Longshot, who comes from his world and is rumoured to be his father through some crazy timewarp stuff).

Weaknesses:- The dude is not invincible. He has skin that can be stabbed through. He is quite good at avoiding having it stabbed through, but if it happens in the right place he can and will die.

- BASICALLY EVERYTHING ELSE is the fact that he doesn't completely get Earth and its people or customs, all of which I talked about in the personality section!

Preferred drop-in point: Seattle!

What are some of your plans for this character in their new environment? My main objective is always interesting CR. I want to use the environment to see Shatterstar learn and have interesting interactions that he wouldn't have otherwise.

First Person Journal Sample:[There is a lot of shuffling. And a blurry screen. He's turned it on and is walking around with it in his hand, not aware that people can see or hear him.]

Scoundrels! Where have you taken me?! Return me at once or I will take your life as payment!

Julio? Julio, where are you? Have they taken you as well? Bastards...

[Some more shuffling. You are now looking right at him! He doesn't look very pleased at all. In fact, he looks as though he is about to administer a fair amount of justice. It takes him a moment or two to understand that he is broadcasting to a large number of people, but he figures it out.]

Good people! It's time to stand up against these fiends that have imprisoned you! Gather your weapons and follow me! We'll overwhelm our captors through sheer force!

[He looks around, momentarily forgetting to keep the device level with his face.]

We will meet here, in this square! We'll rally and storm their offices! Together, we'll--!

[Suddenly there's a shiing! as he draws his sword, and his voice sounds far away.]

Stand down, stranger! State your business and tell me the name of this place!

Seattle. That's an Earth city, isn't it?

[He brings the phone back to his face.]

People of Seattle, if my kidnappers are among you, know that they will pay dearly.

Third Person Sample:As far as everyone else was concerned, Shatterstar had three moods: happy, angry, and fighting. Maybe it was called glee. Maybe it was somethinge else. In any case, no one really questioned it. Shatterstar had just grown up in a different culture was all, he just had a different attitude about separating someone's head from their body. To him, it was just another way to shut someone up.

Well, not really.

He was, however, currently planning on separating a number of heads from most likely the same number of bodies quite soon. He did not take well to being kidnapped. He quite hated it, actually. He knew how it felt to have no control, and he had fought to take some of it for himself. That phase of his life was over - he was in charge now and he wasn't about to let anyone else snatch that away from him.

His swords drawn, he was sneaking expertly out of the office building he had woken up in. The woman upstairs hadn't given him much information, but she had convinced him that she really didn't know and so he had spared her. He had been taught on Earth, after all, that death shouldn't be dealt out so generously. This place looked like Earth, anyway. He had seen a fair amount of Earth, and he could deduce that this was at least a very similar dimension to the one he had just been in.

Even the bakeries smelled the same.

Bakeries?

There was a bakery. Bakeries were harmless, for the most part. Shatterstar lowered his swords and looked in the window. Just then, the phone he had thrown so carelessly into his pocket made himself known and he was distracted once again.
