I know that Portland is wayyy too up its own ass, but I aaaaaaalmost think the cool-kid pretention is deserved. The food there was fucking UNREAL (and we had some good grub in Seattle too) - and it's easy to see why. Local/farm-fresh/organic food is SO easily available there and it can be had for almost the same price as GMO/mass market equivalents ( Read more... )

I swear, I'd move to Portland in a heartbeat if I could. It's my ideal city.

I was *astounded* at the amount of kids there. And they were all really funny/well behaved too. It seems like a city that really supports parents, both in their parental roles and in recognizing their individuality.

My partner and I could buy a gorgeous five-bedroom-plus-basement-suite house there for what a two bedroom apartment costs in a desireable part of town where I live. To bad there's no work prospects for us there or we'd be planning a move ourselves!
