Oh well now that was an enjoyable read even though I hadn't any LOTR knowledge to fall back on. Love the sidekick discussion. This could be a fun series. Thanks for sharing. :)
Pleased it worked for you even without the LOTR background. When you're a Slayer a side kick is something you do (usually fiercely and preferably into sensitive parts of vampire anatomy,) not something you are ... *g*
Although I suspect, if she stopped and thought about it, Buffy might find it refreshing change to be the one to say 'I've got your back' rather than 'follow me.' :-)
If Gandalf gets promoted, then there's a job vacancy that needs to be filled ...
Aragorn has need of his kin, and the Grey Company has need of the Grey wizard (and his Slayer) on their ride. It's a long way from Rivendell to the paths of the Dead and a lot can happen in between.
There will be more - but short tales, rather than trying to write the whole thing in one bite. (I'd need to be Tolkien to manage that!)
This is an awesome story. I love how you wove everything together, and made it seem perfectly natural. And I really hope that you're going to continue with more tales in "The Ride of the Grey Company."
Question on practical stuff: will this story be uploaded to an archive like AO3 or have all the parts linked/tagged together for easy bookmarking and re-reading?
I've posted it Twisting the Hellmouth, under my author listing of 'Pythia,' and I will get round to posting it on my own site at some point. I'm away from my main PC at the moment (about 6000 miles away in fact) so I can't give you the TTH link, but it's relatively easy to find via google.
There will be more. Not sure when, but I'm working on it ... :-)
Another wonderful trip into a magical world. This time with my two favorite characters. And I am not even a LOTR'S fan. I did manage to understand a bit of your universe though thanks to the movies. So glad to see you writing some more. Can't wait for the next in the series. Always love when Giles is potrayed as an intelligent, strong addition to the team and just not an extension of the Slayer. Thanks so much for posting this.

But the best news of all for me is that "first tale" note. I suspect there's a lot of action ahead.
