I need to take this opportunity to rant. I'm hoping that by ranting to the world at large, I will let off enough steam that this no longer bothers me. Nearly this exact same thing happened to me four years ago. John Stewart came to GW and I really wanted to go. All my friends said yes, and then one by one they failed to commit, so the show sold out. I think I even ranted about it on LJ. I was furious. I think you should go without them, because to this day I regret missing the opportunity to see John Stewart live.

I totally second this. Don't miss out on this because of your lame friends.

Especially in college I noticed that people can be like this, agree to something that they are sort of interested in, but then had or make other plans that conflict, and because they don't see the event as a big deal to them, they don't see it as an issue when cancelling with you. It just sucks because we three are all the kind of people that really love things and are affected by people getting our hopes up and then cancelling and would never do something like that ourselves.
