So I have finally mastered the art of the cooking of the rice. It involves a rice cooker. It makes rice infinitely better than any other means!!! Thank God I stole one of the two we had at home ( Read more... )

I finally mastered the art of eating with chopsticks, thanks partly to my boyfriend's master rice cooking skills.

I follow the cooking instructions he gives me, but it just never turns out quite right.

Every time I go home my mom tries to teach me to make rice, and I still can't do it. It's the only homemaker-ish thing she's ever tried to impart on me but she still sighs and goes "You're so smart! Why can't you make rice??"

Well, here's your answer...buy a rice cooker, preferably one where the instructions are in several Asian languages in addition to the standard English/Spanish/French (mine came in Korean and Chinese). Trust me, if you want to make good rice, this is key.

Hey Dude,

You did a teaching Fulbright, right? I'm applying for one but I'm stumped as far as the essay goes. Did you write something about what you hoped to study while you were teaching? Give me some pointers, yo.

Yes I did. My advice for the essay is to write about why you want to teach (any experience, etc., even if it's elsewhere in the essay), and then talk briefly about a research project you might want to do on the side. It's not required, and even if you say you'll do one they won't check on it, but I think they want to see if you have an academic bent, too. So just make something up.

Good luck...lemme know how it goes!
