Do you perhaps mean allowing same-sex couples not to have to testify against each other in court? We can be forced to testify against each other in court here (because we're denied spousal privilege), and that's not a good thing.

Thought I was replying to someone else's post--being a gay law student, you obviously know what spousal privilege is. But still, what's the deal?

Um...what's spousal privilege? I haven't taken any relevant class on that yet.

And yes you're right, they no longer have to testify against each other in court.

Spousal privilege just means that spouses generally cannot be forced to testify in court as to their private communications (e.g., incriminate their spouse in a criminal proceeding). There are sometimes exceptions--I believe NC makes one for child abuse cases.

Huh, I never thought about it but you don't sound like you come from Nova. I wouldn't call your accent Irish but it sounds more New England-ish. Can't put my finger on it.

Interesting...I'll have to ask some of my friends here from all over the U.S. and see who thinks I sound like I could be from their hometown.
