Women aren't supposed to be silent. How will other women get teaching about woman-specific issues if they are? Men can't adequately teach on things like motherhood or dealing with female perspectives on common issues between men and women.
And hey, if God truly has given you a word to preach, then if people are quiet it's not on you. Don't worry about their response...silence can be a sign that something is hitting them really hard.
I think she meant silent before the whole congregation as in teaching the word before men type thing. Its the whole belief in why women arent necessarly called to be pastors or "priestesses" because the biblical teachings on it. She believes she should do those things, obviously to, as you implied, edify the women in her life, but in the proper context that still lets God's design on men-being-the-spiritual-leader be adhered to.
Women don't have to not ever speak to let men be the spiritual leaders. I think such drastic measures are a sign of insecurity in leadership. But the real issue is...where in the word does it say women should never speak before men? There were female prophets even in the Old Testament.
