Each week we have "ministry objectives". Things we are required to do. These include writing skits, passing out 1500 tracks, and going door-to-door. Now I can understand the writing skits, but at first I had a hard time with the whole track quota thing. Haha now though, I see why. Christians are lazy. Well, humans are lazy, but if the ( Read more... )

People prefer invitation, not invasion. I don't know where you get your figures, but I doubt Mormons are growing as fast as God's true kingdom. Jesus built people up by having relationship with them, not by knocking on their door.

And as far as the Ray Comfort method of evangelism goes:
  • People know they are sinners. You don't need to slam them with the Ten Commandments for them to know they are hell bound. Sure people don't know every last bit of why, but it is not uncommon to hear people say "yup...I'm going to hell."
  • Anything you can get talked into you can get talked out of. Cementing salvation comes by connection through relationship to a local church. Pastor Paul Yungi Cho (sp?) has the largest church IN THE WORLD (750,000 people broken into cell groups) built on this model, the model Jesus used. Discipleship through relationship.
  • You saying that you hate using Christ's love as a path to salvation is a major issue. All throughout the new testament, the Holy Spirit convicts people of their sin...not preachers. The only ( ... )

I wanted to make clear that I am not forgetting God's righteous justice. The truth is the wages of sin is death and separation from God, but there is a second part to the verse. :) There needs to be a balance between learning or God's judgment and his infinite grace.

Just wanted to make sure it was apparent that I wasn't trying to preach an "all love no judgment" gospel. God is both just and merciful, and people need to know balanced portions of all his traits. :)

I think you are argueing something totally different than what I was talking about here. You are talking about discipleship where I am discussing evangelism.

Also you say that the "ray comfort" idea doesn't work yet by God's amazing power 117 people have given their lives to the Lord.

Before you say Mormonism isn't the fastest growing, do the research. Don't make assumptions.

I never said it didn't work, I was merely alluding to it not being the best idea, because it may lead people to God, but it often traps them in legalism. And you can't separate evangelism and discipleship...they are parts of a linear progression. Once you hear and accept the gospel, it's up to the people that told you the good news to build into your faith until you can begin building it into others.

Also, I never said Mormonism wasn't the fastest growing, I simply said I doubt that it is. By context I implied that I didn't have confirmed knowledge of the fact. However, even if this fact is true (which, if it is I'd like to see the source) Mormonism is not Christianity, and we shouldn't celebrate it's growth or necessarily mirror it's methods. Islam grew fantastically quick in its beginnings, but did it by the sword. Growth is not always a good thing by which a religion should be measured ( ... )
