Can anyone tell me who the ST in charge of the GIR is?

I may be jumping the gun on this, but I have the FEAR of one major thing with UK games joining the GIR. That fear is that the STs in charge of the UK game actually know bugger all about merry England, Scotland, Welshland and the Isle of Wights. Now, this may seem like an elitist (not the right ( Read more... )

Ben, it will be ok. I'm sure all the STs have read White Wolf's "Isle of the Mighty" from the old Changelilng game, so they'll get everything right.

They can also study "Dick van Dyke's Guide to Speaking Propah Briddish."

I resisted citing Freddie as an example in the above entry :P. He may have lived in a dinner suit with a dodgy accent; but he died like a proper British Fang.

Is Isle of the Mighty the one with two Birminghams?

Well, that makes sense; surely most ports must have a mouth.

The NST for GIR is Nate Hodges, and he can be reached at navyspook78@gmail.com for camstuff.

The impression I get is that when all's said and done, if there's enough members of the UK that have decided to continue being members of the WW club, they'll just play on as normal, the only difference being that the NST changed. I would further presume that if enough domains stay, you could easily see an RST: UK, reporting to Nate.

Otherwise, if only a few people make the jump, they'd all become members of GIRC, which is the GIR version of the US "Four Winds" or Canada's "Northern Winds" Domains. I have no idea what this would do to the affected PCs, though.

But, those two previous paragraphs are just an educated guess. I'd go straight to Nate, CC Michelle, and ask what the plan is.

I have e mailed the lovely Mr Hodges and am awaiting a reply. I'm genuinely quite curious, especially as current numbers (based on a poll on my LJ) suggests that none of the games I play in are going GIR, and only a tiny minority of players are maintaining their membership in the larger organisation at all.

I don't think there will be enough people for live action games, unless there's a big recruitment drive. So I will be very curious to see how things pan out.

That's fair. I have no idea when it comes to the logistics of this working out. I hope that, somehow, it does.

This is known as 'London, England' symdrome and is common in books. For example, if I were to write a thriller set in New York, would it sell very well if it was bloody obvious I'd never even been there, when it's very obvious the reverse of this is when happened when Dan Brown wrote books set in London and Rome?

The thing which strikes me about the grand cam falling out is that you'd think that Americans, of all people, might understand why folks object to placing final executive authority of their society in the hands of an unaccountable organisation in a foreign land on the other side of the Atlantic.

It appears that irony is something which doesn't translate well.

I wonder when we'll see the Canary Wharf Tea Party?

This is something I've been worrying about as well. I have had some people suggest that the UK players should form a 'London' domain, no matter where in the UK they are from, and it honestly sends a cold shiver down my spine.

I see the future. And the future is an irc game set in 'London', and run by someone from North Carolina. It's not a pleasant future!

GIR doesn't neccessarily mean that the games are IRC games.

But Surely the domain would be 'London, England'.

I thought everywhere in England was London?

Besides, London seems to be getting bigger over time anyway. Kind of like a rash.

You have rashes which get bigger over time? May I suggest making sure your partners wash properly? :-D

So I think I've got most of what is going on from various LJ posts... But what does "GIR" mean exactly?

Global Independent Region. Catch all place for people that want to be Camarilla members but live in places where there isn't a national affiliate.
