Indeed and it has been like that for a while - I mean the WW NDAs for getting access to pre-releases for addending new books were also taken as covering all discussions on the various high level ST lists too, thus stopping any consulting with our own venue STs below National level.

I guess it is the difference is view of whether the Cam is a society run by members for members beneits, or by WW for WW's benefit :S

I'm not sure about switching the OBN back on. I think that in several venues the lessons of the past - which you were one of the teachers - have been completely ignored.

Which is really frustrating.

I'm glad TPTB have decided to do the reset, though IMO it should have been done in the 'Year of the New Member'

For added laughs - 2009: The Year of Communication

The reset strikes me an a good idea; it's the way they went about it that annoys me. They've forgotten all the lessons of the past as KM says above.

I agree that more transparency is necessary in the Cam.

HOWEVER, I also think that these recent changes are, overall, good for the health of the club. And, to be honest, have been a long time in coming to the membership.

How can we work on improving transparency?

I'm quite happy with the changes. MC is a menace and needs to be brought down!

But transparency is not enough, disalogue is actually needed. And it's as simple as the PTB creating email lists that allow open and frank discussion about issues, not locking them down at the first sign of unhappiness.

When working on rules sets in the backgrounds the lists could get pretty raucous, but as long as the insults were laid down against the arguments are not the arguers then it was all good.

Unfortunately you, as a player, have no power over the PTB. So the first question is how are you going to get some power in this relationship?

Yeah, but that's much harder to do! Better to do it Blizzard's way and just let the loudest whiners set direction!

Squeaky wheel and all that?

Has this lead to people whining more loudly? Creating a cacophany of complaint?

To the point that if you don't squeak, you don't get any attention at all. There are some sane people in there, who actually do things that are meant to be good for the game, but by and large, it's the whiners who get listened to, which as you say, creates a circular effect.

Not just that, of course. Some people end up deciding all fan/player input is whining, and simply shut themselves off from it, which is bad in its own way. XD Obviously not just talking about WoW here -- it's endemic throughout fandom, too.
