~*Magical*~ abilities and strengths: Lloyd is from a Tales game, so naturally, this means he can use the “magical abilities” called Artes. Artes basically are strong moves! Lloyd uses two swords when he fights, as well, and he tends to focus on dealing melee physical damage. He's not a spellcaster like Genis or Raine, and in fact, he doesn't even know first aide! He's always the one who rushes headfirst into battle to deal damage, while others tend to back him up. Like most swordsmen, how only ranged abilities lie in Artes, such as Demon Fang - sending a surge of energy at the enemy. Lloyd is a pretty tough guy, too, and he can take a lot of damage before he's down.
• Demon Fang: When the Demon Fang arte is used, the character launches a ground projectile towards a target. This arte is useful for melee characters who need to stay away from enemies temporarily and damage them from a distance, while waiting for healing or support from an ally. However, this arte can travel only along the ground.
• Sonic Thrust: When using this arte, the character thrusts the weapon at the target, pushing it slightly backwards. It is difficult to use this arte during a combo, because it might force the enemy away, breaking the combo and giving the enemy a chance to retaliate.
• Tiger Blade: When using Tiger Blade, the character slashes upwards while jumping, then slashes downwards while landing. This arte is effective for hitting any opponents in the air, further allowing the character to force them to the ground.
• Sword Rain: Sword Rain is an excellent arte to form combos with, especially when linked in a combo with its stronger versions. When this arte is used, the character stabs the target with many rapid thrusts.
• Tempest: When using the arte, the character somersaults into the air while extending the weapon outwards, slashing the enemies multiple times while airborne. This arte is also very helpful for enemy spell evasion, or for continuing wall combos.
There are variations and upgrades of these abilities that Lloyd uses as well. However, I'm not going to list those, since the basic function of the attacks generally stays the same. Lloyd incorporates these artes into his fighting. Think, swing swing combo arte! They take a lot of energy to use, so you can't just constantly use them without repercussion! If he used too many of them in a row, he'll get too tired to continue using them. He'll be able to use them after taking a bit of a break. ...That's how I imagine TP (basically, the "magic" gouge) would work if it weren't a game.
How would they use their abilities?: He'd used them to help his friends, do missions, figure out what the hell is going on, to spar, to help him with daily things... Lloyd is a hero, so he wouldn't go out of his way to use his abilities for eeevil, but he's not a super hero. He's just a kid, while a gentle idealist and hot-headed, he'll try to do what he can.
Appearance: Lloyd is... a guy who stands out, quite a bit. There's nothing particularly special about how tall he is, 5'8, or how much he weighs, 130 lbs... but he has quite a few characteristics that are trademark! Firstly, his clothes. His dad, the dwarf one, Dirk, made them for him! They consist of a bright red jacket with a bunch of buttons, suspenders, gray pants, red boots, red gloves, and a white..scarf...type thing. And two belts, crossed across his waist. He's called “Kid in Red” often enough, because Red is sort of his trademark color, thanks to his hideously bright and complicated clothes. His eyes are brown, as well as his hair, but his hair does this weird.... spiky stick out short long...thing that makes like no sense either. He's a handsome, kid, too! If I don't say so myself. He does take after his dad in the looks department, and his dad is a dreaaaaamboat.
Background/Personality: Our story starts in the town of Iselia, a small place named The Village of Oracles, one that lies on the outer ridge of the southern continent of Sylvarant, the world. Iselia was a small town, with a mayor and a one room school, that was immersed in a very heavy atmosphere of “country”. Seriously, there are chickens walking around the dirt paths in this place. Right next to Iselia there was a human ranch, a place where humans were herded like cattle to grow shiny power boosters named exspheres. Along with the human ranch, there were many forests, and a dwarf named Dirk lived in one of these forests, relatively close to the town.
In this small town, the Chosen of Mana, Colette Brunel, the one who was foretold to save their world from decline, was born, after many arranged marriages and selected breeding. This was a huge thing because they really needed a Chosen to succeed in regenerating (aka saving) the world, because so many had failed before her, and to house and protect the Chosen of Mana until she needed to go on her journey was essential ... she needed to live and learn in order to save everyone, basically. The forests they could protect her easily enough from, but the real problem was that human ranch that was so close by. In order to keep Colette safe, Iselia made a treaty with the human ranch. Their basic understanding was “you don't mess with us, we don't mess with you”. Iselia wouldn't interfere with any of the horrific doings of the human ranch, and the human ranch would ignore the town's existence.
And this worked, for sixteen years! Notice how I said worked. I'm going to get back to this, later. During these sixteen years, Colette Brunel grew up learning about her duty as the Chosen of Mana and preparing for the inevitable journey that she would have to take. She attended school with the other children, too, and it's implied in the game that because she was the Chosen, and such an important person, the other children tended to stay away from her or leave her to her own devices. In this school, she met three of the most important people in her life! She met Professor Raine Sage and Genis Sage, a sister and brother. They both arrived in the village one day, claiming to be elves, and intending on living there. They were accepted into the village, and Raine becomes the teacher in the school, thanks to her uncanny brilliance and knowledge. Genis attends the school as a student, and he's naturally the top of the class, intelligent and fast, despite his young age. She also met Lloyd Irving, the adopted son of the dwarf that lives in the forest. Genis, Colette, and Lloyd become friends, and end up enjoying the majority of their childhoods together, under Raine's watchful eye.
Now, onto the character who really matters, Lloyd! And we'll be sticking with him and events that affect him, seeing as he's the one being applied for. Lloyd grew up living with Dirk the dwarf, in the forest around Iselia. Dirk is not Lloyd's biological father, and this should be pretty obvious, seeing as Dirk is a dwarf and Lloyd is a human. However, this difference has never meant anything to Lloyd, and Lloyd loves Dirk unconditionally, as a son loves his father. Right near their house is his mother's grave, which Lloyd visited quite often. Growing up, Lloyd (and most of the other children in Iselia, really) was unaware of how those in the world were really suffering, especially those in the human ranch, thanks to the treaty Iselia held with the ranch. In fact, because of the treaty, his childhood while living with Dirk was fairly pleasant, aside from the times Dirk would punch him for being an idiot and the times Raine would throw things at him for falling asleep in class.
As for his biological parents, at the beginning of the game, Lloyd “knows” they're dead, but as for the exact circumstances, he's not aware. His real parents are something of a mystery to him, because they died when he was so young. Dirk informed him that his mother had been killed, as he found Lloyd in her arms as she lay dying, and she requested of him that he take Lloyd in and care for him, to which he obliged. His mother's name was Anna, a headstrong and caring young woman who fell in love with someone she probably shouldn't have. His biological father's name is Kratos Aurion, which both he and Dirk are completely unaware of. In fact, Lloyd grew up believing that his father had died alongside his mother, and he never toyed with the fact that his father might actually be alive. And he certainly never thought that he would meet him, one day. But this is something that will come into play much, much later. And no, Lloyd knew nothing of his parents aside from the fact that his mother's name was Anna and that they are dead. As far as parental figures went, Dirk was all he knew.
Every day, he went through the forest and past the human ranch to attend school in Iselia, even though he wasn't particularly fond of school. However, it's because of this daily trek that he meets and befriends Colette and Genis, his two best friends in the village. And it's in their school where our story really begins! One day, during a lesson that Lloyd wasn't paying attention to, a tower of light erupts in the distance. Of course, everyone knows what this means, but they need to explain it anyway, because Lloyd is stupid! When the tower shows itself, that means that the Chosen must make her way to the Temple that lies south of the village with a bunch of oracles to begin the Journey of Regeneration. Raine runs off first, to make sure everything is sound for Colette, and she tells the kids to wait inside the schoolroom before she goes. Lloyd, being rash and headstrong, quickly states (once Raine is gone) that they should go to the temple right away! Genis disagrees, but Colette agrees once Lloyd persuades her, and they head off!
And just a note: two teens and a little elf kid with 1) pair of wooden swords, 1) toy wand, and 2) wooden chakrams wandering off into an open field filled with monsters makes for difficult leveling, with attacks that deal one damage each. Basically, they're all weak, and they decide to throw themselves into danger and fight monsters along the way to the temple. Once they reach the temple, the find that... things are not going according to plan, and that all of the oracles have been killed! Some soldiers that look suspiciously like Desians attack! There's bloodshed! Eventually, though, a wandering mercenary named Kratos Aurion (HA HA HA) steps in and saves their asses, much to Lloyd's displeasure. Impressed with Kratos's skills as a swordsman, Colette's grandmother decides to hire him to accompany Colette on her journey, to make sure she arrives at her final destination safely. Despite, you know, this guy coming out of nowhere and acting totally suspicious. Lloyd dislikes this even more! And thus begins the rocky relationship between Kratos and Lloyd. Don't worry, it gets better! ...And then horrible. But then better again! Just wait and see. ...HA HA HA.
Once it's settled that Kratos will go with Colette and Raine on the journey, they return to Colette's house to discuss details. Naturally, Genis and Lloyd are not privy to the conversation, so they're basically asked to leave. Begrudgingly, Lloyd does, and before he and Genis leave, Genis gives Colette cookies! For her birthday! ...Because that's apparently today. Lloyd, having totally forgot about her birthday and the gift he intended to make, bullshits that he just has to put the finishing touches on it, and that he'll get it to her before she leaves, promise! She thanks him and he goes to run home to make an entire birthday gift before she leaves on her journey with the Professor and the Asshole. Strangely enough, Genis wants to walk home with him! But what's this, he's turning down the path to the human ranch? Not really liking the situation, Lloyd decides to go with him, to meet this “friend” that Genis is apparently meeting up with over there. This is when Lloyd meets Marble, and elderly woman who is captured inside of the human ranch.
Lloyd notes that Marble's exsphere doesn't have a keycrest, a mount on which the exsphere is placed, because when it makes direct contact with human skin, it can be deadly. At Genis's request, he agrees to see if he can get a keycrest for Marble, so she won't have to suffer the effects of the exsphere. Then they run off, because they don't want to get caught. But then they see Marble getting whipped from where they're hiding! In a rage, Genis shoots a fireball at them! And to cover up the situation, Lloyd serves as a distraction so Genis can get away. However, unbeknownst to him, he's actually caught on camera! Dun dun dun. They think they got away with it, though, so Genis and Lloyd both go home. Unfortunately, Lloyd was caught on video, and while the Desians probably wouldn't have cared all that much about some kids getting into mischief, they noticed that Lloyd's exsphere is special - and of course, they want it. They want it bad.
Once he's home, Lloyd brings up the mention of a keycrest casually, trying to see if he can get one from Dirk. Dirk, suspicious, since Lloyd has a keycrest and no one in Iselia should have an exsphere, basically calls Lloyd out on going to the human ranch and yells at him and punches him and they basically get into a huge fight. Lloyd runs outside in a fit of boy frustration only to find ...all of his friends plus Kratos standing there. Turns out Colette wanted to visit, and they obviously couldn't say no to her! Lloyd and her head up to his room to talk, where they talk about the journey, and Lloyd tells her that he wants to go with her. She hesitates, and then agrees, telling him to meet their group around noon at her house. How awesome! Dirk is super proud of Lloyd for being his own man, and gives him a kit of nice things to take with him on his travels, and gives him his blessing and tells him to come home whenever he needs to. Because Dirk really is a good dad who loves his little idiot.
However, the next morning, Genis comes over and yells at Lloyd for missing Colette's departure. Confused, Lloyd tells Genis that it can't be possible, because Colette had told him a later time. Genis then tells him that, uh, no, Colette is gone, and then they both race back to Iselia. Only to find it UP IN FLAMES. Desians, Desians everywhere! And they're looking for Lloyd! Because someone broke the treaty, and even though it was all really Genis's fault, they didn't catch him on camera, so it was all pinned on Lloyd. Though really, they were only going through all of the effort because they noticed that Lloyd had a special exsphere, and they wanted it. In addition to tons of Desian soldiers, they also bring in a huge monster thing to kill Lloyd. After Lloyd fights it, he realizes that it's Marble, and she's morphed into this hideous beast because of the exsphere attached to her body being removed, and the flow of mana from that overflowing and causing her to morph into this crazy beast. Learning that that thing is Marble is pretty traumatizing for both Lloyd and Genis, but they end up beating her.
Anyway, to keep Iselia safe and because the treaty was broken, the Mayor ends up banishing Lloyd, and Genis in turn, because if Lloyd goes, Genis goes. This is a very sobering experience for Lloyd, never having experienced such cruelty and horror. Plus, he bore the weight of those who suffered because of him on his shoulders, thanks to this little endeavor. Having nowhere else to go, Lloyd and Genis begin to look for Colette, Kratos, and Raine, on the Journey of Regeneration. They venture into the desert, and eventually make it to the desert oasis, Triet. Here, they learn that Lloyd is a wanted criminal for his doings in the Iselia human ranch, and there are posters of him and everything! Again, they're going through all of this effort, not because they really care about Lloyd, but because of his super special exsphere. He does not know this, obviously. Anyway, they end up paying a fortune teller to tell them were Colette is headed, which they learn are the Triet Ruins. They leave, and while making their way there, they get attacked! An attack from behind knocks Lloyd out, and Lloyd and Genis are taken to the “Desian” base. Genis, who is still conscious, begs like a little whore for his life and for them to let him go, and out of pity for a “kindred spirit” they do let him go (our first hint about the Sage's roots).
Lloyd wakes up in a cell, but manages to break out and to find his stuff. After running around in the place for a while, he meets up with two suspicious men, one with blue hair and one...British sounding guy. Lloyd exchanges some banter with the blue haired man before he leaves, after hearing that the Chosen's group had gotten into their base. He leaves some soldiers to fight, and Colette and her crew, with Genis, show up to save Lloyd! They fight the British sounding guy, Botta, and some minions, before Botta runs off. They quickly get their asses out of the base, but not before Kratos berates Lloyd for being stupid, and Raine tells him that Genis has let her in on what happened in Iselia. Having nowhere else to go, and having nowhere else to actually send them, Lloyd and Genis officially join the Chosen's group, and join the party!
From here on they travel around to release the seals, places Colette must go in order to take steps in becoming an “angel”. During their travels they're followed by an assassin named Sheena Fujibayashi, who eventually gives up her mission after meeting the group and befriending them. At their final stop, Colette would become a full angel. With each seal they reach, Colette must give up a piece of her humanity, as explained to them by the angel Remiel, who meets them at each seal and gifts Colette with her new “angel powers”. At first she gains wings, but then she begins to lose her ability to feel and the need to eat. She does, however, begin to gain angel abilities, such as extremely acute and amazing hearing, and amazing strength. At first, Lloyd finds Colette gaining wings and new abilities really cool, and Colette keeps the downsides of her transformation hidden, so Lloyd remains fairly unworried about the girl. However, as the journey progresses, he begins to notice that she's acting strangely. She's begun to eat foods she disliked previously, she's been going on very few hours of sleep, she'll eat something really hot and not notice... and eventually he approaches her on it. One night, he brings her a cup of “hot” coffee, and warns her that it's hot and to be careful. She thanks him and blows on it, and he's silent, before saying, “It's really cold coffee.” She realizes that she's been caught, but tries to cover it up and switch her story to match, but he ends up saying, “I lied again. It's really hot coffee.”
It's here when Lloyd realizes how selfish he's been being (he also shows how keen he can be about things but that's not as important), and as Kratos had said, “clinging to the chosen.” He had no idea that she was suffering, and bearing everything alone, and he ...cries. He's frustrated with himself, his weakness and his inability to even see when she's in pain. To his benefit, however, he's the only one of the group (aside from Kratos) who is even aware of anything going on with Colette! He's actually the one to break the news to them, because Colette wouldn't. From then on, Lloyd tries to gain strength and to try to be more aware, and he does make some progress, as noted by his companions. During their travels, they go out of their way to assist people, and to destroy the human ranches that are run by the Desians and to free the humans being held captive. Lloyd finally begins to understand the extent of how much people are really suffering during this journey, and his desire to help everyone grows. Eventually they reach the last night before the final seal, the Tower of Salvation, where Colette will become a “true” angel. Here, you're free to talk to everyone, as everyone has split up for the night. When you speak to Kratos, he tells Lloyd not to make a mistake, in addition to calling him out for “clinging to the chosen” and using her status to be rash and hot-headed, and get away with things. Which is... kind of true, as he's a hot-headed guy, and he had been doing what he wanted to, while saying he was protecting Colette.
Lloyd gets annoyed at first, but understands what he's saying, and asks that if he does make a mistake, can't he just do it over again? To which Kratos replies, “If it's something you can do over, then by all means.” Here, Lloyd promises to himself that he won't make another mistake, in his own journey to become a stronger swordsman and a stronger person. He also doesn't want Colette to suffer anymore, so he promises to be strong for her. The next morning, they leave for the Tower of Salvation, on dragons! This is because the Tower is over some mountains and it'd be a real pain to get there if they had no way of flying there. They're fairly quick to reach the tower, depending on who you decide to ride the dragon with. However, in every situation, Kratos and Colette ride a dragon together and get there first, going up into the tower without you. Once Lloyd reaches the top, Colette is already preparing to become an angel, and Kratos is nowhere in sight. It's finally revealed here that things are not as they seem, at least, people have been hiding things from Lloyd.
Here, you learn that “becoming an angel” really means “death HA HA HA”, because at the final seal, Colette must give up her heart and her memory. Once he hears this, Lloyd begs her not to do it, and he tries to run to her, but he's held back by Genis. While being held back, he continues to ask her not to do it, saying that if she sacrifices herself, it would be like sacrificing all of them, because of how hurt they'd be without her. Colette, however, is determined to save the world so her friends can live happily, so she gives herself up to the seal, and loses her soul. This leaves her body in a “self protect” state - dead to the world aside from fighting off anyone who might try to hurt her. Remiel, the “angel” who is not really an angel, but in fact, a Desian, begins to take her away, but the group stops him by... beating the ever living crap out of him. Yeah, they're hardcore like that. They do this, and Remiel falls, and... this is when Kratos pops up! Lloyd bitches at Kratos, asking him where the hell he's been, but Kratos basically ignores him and ends up mocking Remiel for losing to those who he so despises. Oh, and Remiel asks Kratos for help, but Kratos shoots him down.
Lloyd soon realizes that Kratos had deceived them, something that Sheena (former assassin turned friend during their journey) voices when she realizes it, too. They fight Kratos, and lose horribly, because Kratos is kind of a beast. And then the biggest bad, the man who is behind everything, shows up! He asks Lloyd if he's Lloyd, to which Lloyd responds that he'll give his name if he gives him his. The blond laughs, and says he not need to introduce himself to a dog, but obliges anyway. This man is Yggdrasil, the leader of a group named Cruxis, who run the Church of Martel and the Desians. Basically the things they learned follow this:
1)Becoming an angel means dying, so Colette had intended to sacrifice herself (she was aware of this).
2)Remiel was not actually an angel, but rather, a rather snotty Desian.
3)The Church of Martel, the religion that almost everyone followed, was nothing but a farce, and was really run by an organization named Cruxis, who bossed the Desians around. So the Church of Martel and the Desians were really the same thing, though those who were priests or followed the Church of Martel didn't necessarily know this.
4)Colette's body was intended to be used as a body for the resurrected Martel
5)Kratos was a big fat liar, and had been on the side of the bad guys the whole time.
As you can imagine, it was quite a bit to digest. After mocking them, Yggdrasil faces them in battle, and basically kicks their asses so hard he knocks them clean off. Seriously. When you face him you have 1 HP because of your fight with Kratos, and he basically just touches you and you explode. Lloyd is even thrown against a stone pillar, which cracks and falls because of the force of the throw. Before they can be finished off, the Renegades, a group against the Desians and Cruxis, burst in, to save the day. We don't know what happens next, because Lloyd and friends pass out from being abused by two godmods, but they wake up in the Sylvarant Base, the one that Lloyd had been taken to when he was attacked in the desert back before he met up with Colette's group to look for the seals. As it turns out, unlike what they had previously thought, the base didn't belong to Desians, it belonged to the Renegades! Also, they managed to get Colette, too! Though she's still soulless at this point. Lloyd tries to communicate with her, but he's told it's useless, and that she's nothing but a shell of her former self.
In comes the blue haired man! And for some reason, he's not interested in Colette, rather, he's interested in Lloyd, and he says that Lloyd is the one that they need now. Unsure, totally unsure, Lloyd demands to know why he's so special, but the blue haired man, named Yuan, refuses to tell him. The group manages to get away from Yuan and the guards, and they decide that the only place they can go now is to Tethe'alla. They find the Rheairds, ships that can fly through the air and between worlds, and snag them so they can sneak off to Tethe'alla. And they manage to get across, but end up crashing because the Rheairds have no fuel left. That's what they get for not checking! They land on top of the Fooji Mountains, and Sheena tells them that they have to head to Meltokio, the capital city, to speak with the King. They all agree, and head out there! The differences between Tethe'alla and Sylvarant are huge, with Tethe'alla flowing with mana and having extremely advanced technology, compared to Sylvarant, which lacked in both of those fields. It's really clear that Tethe'alla has been flourishing for a long time!
They go to Meltokio, where Sheena has to split with them to report her failure to assassinate the Chosen of Sylvarant, but she gives them a letter to pass onto the King. While heading to the castle, they meet Zelos, who is hitting on women, but they brush him off as some idiot, though Lloyd notes that he's fast and smooth enough that he must have an exsphere. But he's an idiot, so they move on! They go to do so, but as it turns out, the King is really sick, so he isn't taking any audiences. But they're not ones to give up so quickly! They see a young girl, Presea, pulling along something called the “sacred wood”, a slab of wood that the priests were going to bring to the King to pray with, to pray that he'd get better. Lloyd convinces her to let them “help” her bring the sacred wood into the castle, so they can sneak inside and see the King. After some persuasion, she agrees, and in they go! They make their way into the King's room and hand over the letter - and hey, the meet Zelos again, who, while an idiot, is actually the Chosen of Tethe'alla! The King reads the letter and is stunned with their proposal of healing Colette from her soulless state, and ends up sending them into a room to wait.
While waiting, Raine states that they could be gathering soldiers to kill them, and then in they come... with soldiers to kill them! But Raine, ever so quick thinking, tells them that if they heal Colette, she'll still be over here on Tethe'alla's side, making it impossible to go over to Sylvarant and “save” the world. After some thought, they agree to help find a way to heal Colette as long as they don't try anything funny, like saving Sylvarant. Also, they have to keep Zelos with them, so he can keep an eye on them, so they don't try anything. With Zelos's help, they go to Sybak, a place with tons of researchers and scholars, where they can try to find a way to save Colette. They even cross a giant bridge, which is awesome! The only not awesome thing about it is that it runs on about 3000 exspheres, which means that 3000 people died to make those exspheres! Zelos is grossed out by this, and informs them that most machines run on expsheres now-a-days! Anyway, yes, they go to Sybak.
While there, they learn that exspheres and Cruxis Crystals are essentially the same, only that Cruxis Crystals are a more advanced form of the exsphere. They deduce that if they can get Colette a keycrest, she'll go back to normal! Lloyd, being the son of a dwarf, knows how to craft a ...clumsy keycrest, so he agrees to do so, with the right materials. Once they grab those, he makes one that should work, and gives it to her, telling her that it's her birthday present, even though it's really late, and that he's sorry for making her wait. However, she doesn't return back to normal, at least, not right away! Also, while in Sybak, they discuss the possibility of going back to Sylvarant, so they can find a way to save both the worlds. Zelos somewhat agrees, and then OUT OF NOWHERE, the papal knights, also known as the pope's/king's knights, and they decree Zelos and the Sylvaranties traitors and criminals for treason. Yes, they were stalking them, waiting for a moment like that.
As it turns out, they take DNA samples of criminals, so once they prick Genis and Raine, they find out they're half-elves. This... is bad, for them, because half-elves are on the bottom of the caste system in Tethe'alla, and any half-elf found of a crime is immediately sentenced to death. Because half-elves can cast magic, they decide to just lock Lloyd and Company in the basement until they can get backup, and to bring the half-elves to Meltokio with everyone they had. So they're thrown into the basement, where they meet a half-elf named Kate. They ask Kate for help getting out to save their half-elf friends, and at first Kate is skeptical, but Lloyd goes on about how he doesn't care about how they're half-elves, but they're his friends, and he can't let them be killed! His words move her, and she lets them out a hidden door, and they run off to Raine and Genis's rescue. Once they save them, Genis and Raine apologize for lying, but Lloyd tells them that it doesn't matter if they're half-elves or not, because they're important people to him, and his friends. Yayyyy. So they head back to Meltokio and sneak in through the sewers, and stay in Zelos's house for the night. That's where I'm taking him from!
Okay, I am completely exhausted from writing all of that, but I'm not even done. Because now I must move on to the personality section of this app. I apologize in advance, you poor souls. Anyway! Despite being the hero of Tales of Symphonia, Lloyd isn't overly angsty, nor does he have anything to prove at the start of the game. He's not a world weary adventurer or a tactical genius, or anything of the sort. He's a simple country boy, raised by a dwarf ever since he found him in the arms of his dying mother, years prior to the start of the game. Dirk did raise him well, teaching him the art of craftsmanship, and how to work hard, as Dirk worked hard every day of his life. He's not particularly bright when it comes to scholarly things, and if his friends were asked to describe him in one word, they'd probably choose “idiot”. They might tack on a “well-meaning” to the front of that if they had the choice, but idiot rings true.
In addition, Lloyd is a very straightforward young man, one who speaks his mind and his ideals, to the point where he even gains the title of 'gentle idealist'. Altessa comments that he speaks a lot like Mithos, the Great Hero who ended the Kharlan War (huuuge war that happened a loooong time ago) after making both sides of the war sign a peace treaty. However, when compared to Mithos, Lloyd states that he isn't Mithos, and that he wants to save the worlds in his own way, one without sacrifices like Colette, with the help of his friends. He does tends to wear his heart on his sleeve, so it's usually easy to tell how he's feeling or what he's thinking. If he's mad at you, he will get aggressive and probably yell. If he's upset, he'll cry! And so on. He's not one to hold back how he's feeling, and he's not afraid to give his opinion, even if it might be a somewhat unintelligent one. And speaking of unintelligence, while Lloyd is a logical and skillful young man, he lacks a large amount when it comes to education. At one point, to prove Genis's prowess as a scholar, he even says that he knows his multiplication tables. … Any person should know those, really. Also, at one point in the game, all of the characters take a test. Lloyd gets a 25, his highest grade ever! Until he learns that the score is out of 400. To make up for this, though, Lloyd possesses a keen level of insight, even better than the scholars in the party. After all, he was the only want to notice how much Colette was really suffering as she slowly lost her humanity, and he was the one who broke the news to the rest of the party when he found out the extent of her troubles.
Lloyd, while an idealist and kindhearted, is also hot-headed and rash. He'll throw himself into something without much thought, especially if there's someone in need. He's also very quick to think on his feet, though his plans may not always work out the way he wants them too. He's also prideful, and dislikes being shown up or looked down on, his initial dislike for Kratos stemming from both of those things. But as he travels with the Chosen's group, he learns from the mistakes he makes, and he learns to acknowledge these mistakes. He also tends to overlook obvious things, or not quite catch someone making fun of him, if it's not obvious. For example, if someone were to say, “Nice going,” he would most likely take it as a compliment, and say, “Hey, thanks!” If he's not quite sure if it's a compliment or not, he'll usually resort to saying “What's that supposed to mean?!” or “What do you mean by that?!” He tends to have a hard time understanding anything that's too complicated in nature, but once something clicks with him, he'll understand. And he finds doing things the easy fast way better than slow and mundane - for example, at one point in the game, they have to look through a bunch of boxes for something. Zelos bitches about this, and suggests that they just blow up all the boxes. Lloyd is quick to agree with him on this!
Moving on! Race means nothing to Lloyd. He responds to his best friend admitting he's a half-elf, the lowest of the low of races in Tales of Symphonia, with “So?” and a shrug - a true Lloyd-like answer. He was raised by a dwarf, for god's sake, and sees him as his dad, without a doubt. He's a very accepting young man, and he understands that everyone has a past, and that from the moment you're born, you deserve to live. People are people, they shouldn't be treated as cattle, no matter the differences between them, be it human or half-elf or elf. He judges others based on their actions, and the things they believe in, rather than how they were born. He's also very trusting of people, and he's quick to trust, to boot. Despite initially disliking Kratos for showing him up and taking him down a few pegs, he's quick to grow to respect and trust him. Zelos, as well, is quick to gain his trust, and Lloyd believes in Zelos, despite barely knowing the chosen at first, and knowing that he was sent with them to keep an eye on them.
Basically, Lloyd is full of flaws. But despite this, he learns from his flaws, and attempts to change based on his beliefs and what he wants for the two worlds. Additionally, while he is full of flaws, he also possesses many good qualities, such as charisma and kindness. Little things that attract people to him and soften their hearts. It's important to note that while he has all the qualities of a great leader, and tends to act like one, he's also just a kid making his way through the world, tripping over his own mistakes and problems. He is going to make mistakes, a lot of them! And he is going to misunderstand things, and not keep a calm head, and... generally, he's going to be a 17 year old boy!

VIDEO;;
[The video begins, with a young man looking almost solemnly into the Guide. He can't be older than 18 or 19, with a hairless face and a youthful curve to his jawline. His lips are pressed into something of a frown, and his brows are furrowed together as he seems to be thinking heavily about something. He continues spacing out a bit before snapping back to reality, when he noticed that the red light on the guide is blinking. He frown lessens a bit, but he's still visibly upset.]
Dammit... how can they just say that, like it's nothing? That my world - a lot of worlds have been destroyed?!
[there's an edge to his voice, rough, one that borders on anger and the force to not burst into tears.]
I couldn't even do anything... I slept right through it! I said I wasn't going to make any more mistakes, but... I did something, I must have made a huge one, for something like this to happen.
[he lets out a slow breath]
Dammit... dammit! All those people - everyone who isn't here, what's happened to them?! I have all these questions and no one in the, what was it, the New Arrivals Office, would answer anything but where the bathroom was! And that was only because I looked like I really had to pee - which I did!
[he's silent again, not really realizing that he's ranting to a whole network of people - at most, he thinks that maybe he's recording himself, so he can look back at it later.]
Professor, Genis, Sheena, Zelos, Colette... everyone... I'm sorry.
3rd person sample:
His head hurt. That was the first thing he registered as he began to regain some semblance of consciousness. It was a low, slow pounding, like he had been dropped on his head from a slightly decent of a height. Maybe he fell out of bed? Zelos was rich, and as rich did, they had high beds with hundreds of pillows and mattresses... but the rug had seemed plush enough that he could have fallen from a great distance and remained unscathed. Guess not. Slowly, he opened his eyes, and tried to focus on the ground beneath him. Because from what he could tell, he was on the ground. But... there was no carpet beneath him, and the sound of people came rushing to his ears seconds later. The sound of chattering and crying, yelling and pens scraping against paper, and a very penetrating voice demanding that, “New Arrivals, this way, please! Try not to step on one another, that will make this business messier than it already is.” Lloyd eyes shot open as it dawned on him that this was not Zelos's posh house in the upper class area of Meltokio. Had he been kidnapped into another base or - even worse - some sort of human ranch?!
With the way people moved, and how some of them were sobbing, this was Lloyd's first and strongest instinct. He shot up, throwing his hands in front of him and pushing up so fast that the man that was passing right near him was unable to get out of the way in time, which resulted in Lloyd headbutting the man in the side. “Ouch!” he griped, grabbing the top of his head, as the man shoved him back in annoyance. Lloyd definitely hurt himself more than he hurt that guy, because damn, it felt like he had a stomach made of steel! Glancing up and around taught him another lesson - that the people around him weren't... human. Or elves. Or half-elves. Or even dwarves. Well, all right, there were some humans mixed in there, as far as he could tell, but there were people he had never seen before in his entire life here... and he had been to two worlds! People of all shapes and sizes, colors and consistencies, languages... and he could barely understand anyone when they spoke. He frowned and curled his fingers, finally pulling his hands away from his head and looking around so far. As a matter of fact, he didn't see any Desians, or... anyone he knew, for that matter. Not a familiar face in the crowd. Oh, right - after scanning around people's kneecaps for a bit, he decided that no, Genis or Presea were not here, either.
He turned to the nearest alien and tried to catch his - her - their attention, “Hey, could you--!” Before he could finish trying to ask where the hell they were, the alien pushed past him, hurriedly heading for a rather long line. Maybe he should try to find that person who had been speaking before, about 'New Arrivals'? He had managed to understand them just fine. So he pushed his way through the crowed, muttering a “Sorry!” every so often, not that the other 'New Arrivals' seemed to understand him. But whoever that had been, he couldn't find them after a lot of pushing and a lot of people stomping on his feet. Finally, he resigned himself to waiting on one of the lines - the line that most people seemed to be headed to when they first seemed to realize that wherever they were, it wasn't home - or rather, where they should have been. Lloyd had been far from home when he was kidnapped into this place. The line moved slowly, and it was so excruciatingly boring that Lloyd almost left to sneak off and wander this place a bit, but it seemed as though guards of some sort were around now, keeping people in line and keeping people from cutting others.
While waiting on line, he checked himself to see if he still had everything on him that he had back in Zelos's house. Swords? Check, they were in tact and loyally in their place. Apple gels, orange gels, lemon gels, life bottles... his pack was intact as well, with nothing removed from it. He even had the same amount of gald he had before! So... what did this mean, exactly? What kind of place was this? Even though his first instinct had screamed Renegade Base or Human Ranch, it seemed it wasn't so. Firstly, the Renegade Bases would never have so many people like this, no lines, or anything. It would just be filled with renegade soldiers and Yuan. And Botta. If he had been taken to a Human Ranch, surely there would be less people that didn't look anything human, and his things would have been taken away from him for sure. Then... where was he? The inside of this place, the metallic gray and the doors opening on their own - it certainly seemed like a base of some sort. Just... much less hostile that the ones he had been in before.
He was jolted out of his thoughts when a young woman tapped his shoulder, she looked quite like a human except she was totally blue and had red eyes. He blinked at her, confused, and she just gestured for him to tilt his head. Unsure, but not sure of what else to do, he complied, and she pressed something...wiggly and slimy into his ear. “Hey, what the hell?!” he griped, grabbing at his ear, trying to pull it out before it got inside and ate his brain and killed him - “Oh, don't worry, Sir! That's just the babel fish. It helps you understand every language that is spoken here.” Not entirely convinced, he continued pawing at his ear until she grabbed his hands and pushed them down at his sides, “Don't hurt yourself, now! Keep moving until you get a towel and a guide. Oh, and I hope you're ready for some paperwork. Oh, right, before I forget, your world has been destroyed. That's why you're here, you're a refugee now, and we've saved you from the destruction of your planet. Have a nice day, and please keep the line moving!” Never in his life had anyone been so polite, kind sounding, and had the ability to utterly crush his heart with just one sentence.
Questions?: Can Lloyd bring Noishe? Noishe is his pet “dog”. He's not really a Mieu equivalent, he's a pet that Lloyd rides around, who doesn't speak, only goes *whine* all the time, so I don't think anyone would ever app him! It's okay if he can't, but I just wanted to ask.
