i watched an interview with him about the whole thing here.
after seeing that, i'll be more than willing to give him a chance. he's got Tennant's enthusiasm and could definitely play someone older than his years.
still disappointed it wasn't Paterson Joseph, but i think he'll do just fine.
He just looks so young to me! But I'm trying to be hopeful. Apparently Moffat was very against hiring someone under the age of 40 for the part, so he must have really wowed them to get hired.
That's what I keep thinking too. I did like the one interview I saw with him. He seems to understand the gravity of the role. But I am worried about fandom. *sigh*
Honestly, I didn't go find who it was before I watched the Confidential, and I am so glad I did. Because yeah, when his face first appeared on the screen, tinuviel428 and I were like "OMG TOO YOUNG!" But then we listened to what he was saying about the role, and the responsibility of taking on the role, and we started to feel better. And then they showed clips of his previous work and we really started to feel better. Then we found a great article about theatre work that he's done and now we're pretty sure that everything is going to be absolutely fine.
And, as Beka said, in the confidential, Moffet said that he had gone into the casting saying that there were too many young blokes on the list, that they ought to cast someone older than Tennant, someone in his forties or late thirties at the youngest. So the fact that he then turned around and said that Matt was it essentially after one meeting - that says to me that there's something special about this guy.
You know, I'm trusting Moffatt. I've loved all of his work and his work for Who has been my favorite of the new series. Hands down. So I have faith in his creative skills and he knows where he wants to take the series.
At this point, I'm thinking I'll just love the show myself, and try to avoid all the fandom craziness because, though the boy might be able to handle the role, I don't see fandom doing anything good. I don't want my show to turn into Twilight. Ya know?

I'm still a bit "whu?" about it, but he'll probably be good...
