I this SR would want you to fake something that you don't feel. you should just tell him the truth and trust that it won't change anything.

I think....the truth is probably the best way to go here. Just tell him you never considered the movie offer a date, and you don't really like him that way, or however it seems best to say. It will obviously make things awkward for a while, a long while or a short while, whichever. But will more than likely go back to normal eventually.
