I think it is great that you are going to continue with this, and are being very forthright about the castings and all. I believe that real artists never find it all smooth sailing, and the ones that make it keep trying. Besides, you are working with a very difficult medium, and I know with time it will all work out!
Thanks you;) I believe in full disclosure... maybe I am telling too much too soon? I have sanded down one seam just to see what is underneath, and there is freckling in the form of small airbubbles that have risen "up" towards the seam and the pouring gate, but when I did a test patch on the back there was nothing under the surface. It's just unfortunate that the seam on the thigh is right at the front. Personally I don't mind so much, at least for myself, it would be kinda cute to fill the pits with slightly darker material so it would be like freckles, expecially on the shoulders, but not everybody will agree with me or even want that, so I want to do what I can to fix it. Hopefully doing the casts in a pressure pot would go some way towards minimising the pinholes, but I think I will ask to have the thigh-molds remade
( ... )
oh, that is bad if they aren't being upfront about the costs. I hope they realize that this isn't a one time thing for you and take that into consideration. I always say future business can be more valuable then quick cash in the hand.
Well its not like he lied, he just miscalculated rather badly just how much time it would take to set up and clean up.... he hasn't cast dolls before, he does model airplanes and that sort of thing, so its a learning experience for him as well. I think we can swing it, so I'll wait and hear back what the new quote will be. I just hope the exchange rate between USD and AUD goes down so I can get the funds out of Paypal soon.
I definitely agree with you about future business, too! And him only making $AU800 in the three weeks he's spent on my stuff (lots of downtime remember) that is nothing compared to my hourly rate for what I have done over the past year;) I'm just lucky to have someone who feeds me and believes in me so that this little business can grow.
