Ohhhhh, I'm the last person to suggest interrupting someone's sleep, but this is really good news! Once in a lifetime news! At least attack him with a random mid-sleep kiss and run away. :)

Congratulations, hon. That is fantastic!

It's okay, he is awake now. Plus we just got the call that we can pick up the keys for the house, so we are going to do that in a little while.

That's excellent! Congratulations on BOTH your pieces of good news :D

I'm terrified of what my future might hold in regard to DIMA - my boyfriend is an American citizen, and if things continue to go swimmingly will want to move out here... unfortunately he isn't allowed a working holiday visa being from the US and all the application costs are so hugely expensive for any long term visa >__< Americans are so unwelcome here :P We'll probably have to get married, but while we continue to see each other we've already spent over $4000 in travel costs and another $4000 or so in living expenses to stay with each other in our respective countries while being unable to work...

I guess tl;dr - how did you do it, and do you have any advice if it comes to trying to get him to be able to move here?

>__< thanks and sorry to hijack your post!

I am on a partner visa (first two years temporary, and permanent as of today), and my sponsor is my de facto partner of the last 5-6 years. The cost for the spouse visa was about AU$1800 and I got working rights with it.. may be worth looking into, but you need to make sure you are eligible first.

Before this I was on a student visa. There really aren't any loopholes, no easy way to to it, but it might be worth getting some advice from a migration agent. Good luck with it:)

Dude, Eddie and I need to move to fucking Australia. US Immigration SUCKS.

Where is Eddie from? He looks Irish in the pics I've seen... he might already be eligible for some British/Australian/Commonwealth thing for all I know...

I read that you were having all kinds of trouble which made me worried about my application, but it went through amazingly fast. I've just gotta send my passport away to get the new label put in it. And apply for citizenship in two years so I can vote etc.

He's British. :3 Yeah US immigration sucks. They are so backlogged... its just... its horrendous.

They are now claiming they sent his Green Card. A Green Card we have YET to receive. SO they want us to pay 200$ to replace it...seeing as how we never GOT it... thats a bit of a problem. Its shit really. We think we are going to get his taken care of and then move to the UK. I'm sick of the US government. Its a sad thing, but I'm so embittered.

I'm SO glad yours was painless! I wish ours was going that way.

Isn't that the kind of thing you would want to send via say.... registered post or something??? So sorry they are giving you all this trouble. As a British citizen Eddie is most likely able to migrate within the Commonwealth with more ease if you did seriously want to consider going Down Under;)
