After quite a scare 4 nights ago, I'm still alive...let me explain…

Ok so Wednesday at work I started getting this pain in my chest and it wasn’t going away…I was thinking maybe it was just from coughing so much but when I got home I still had the pain it was weird cuz I never had chest pains last that long I was thinking if I got some sleep I should feel ok the next day. I started looking stuff up online about chronic coughs and angina and pneumonia and stuff…I just had no clue what was going on. We were watching the Yankees / Red socks game and I was laying on the couch and I was getting sleepy so I went to bed at like 10:30, unusually early for me but I thought it might help me feel better...So I’m sleeping, yay and I wake up and I’m thinking it’s like maybe 4 or 5 am but it’s only 12:30...I think the chest pains woke me up...I felt so awful :( I tried to go back to sleep but the pain was too intense and I didn’t know what to do with myself. I saw Bryan online so I Im’d him and told him I wasn’t feeling well and asked if he could come over and he said yeah. While I was waiting for him I was just pacing the apartment feeling like such crap. I started sweating all over and the pain was spreading to my arm and my throat...just taking over and I was like ok I need to go to the emergency room so I started throwing pill bottles and important papers into my bag just hoping I’d have whatever I would need... then I left the apartment and just walked around outside waiting for Bryan...I was like please God don’t let me die. I’ve never felt so close to death before. It’s so creepy. So when Bryan got here I told him I needed to go to the ER and I told him how to get there and all.

We got there and I walked in to the desk and told the lady I was having chest pains and she asked me how strong it was and asked if I usually looked so pale and I was like probably not...even though I was kinda freaking out inside I was able to stay calm enough to give her all the info she needed...age medications, name etc...She immediately sent me to get an EKG and they also did blood and urine tests and stuck a little IV hookup in my arm. They asked me if I was anorexic or If I was naturally so thin...I was like "naturally thin."

So yeah...then they told me that they were going to get me a room but they were all full but it shouldn’t be much longer and to go out to the waiting room and wait to be called for chest x-rays...so back out I went...and more time passed and I was called back for the x-rays...then sent back again...then I was called over to the desk to settle the financial matters and such I told them I didn’t have any insurance so they asked me if I was able to put down a $20 deposit so I did, then they asked me how much money I made and if I wanted to be considered for Medicaid if I qualified...then she said if I could settle the bill that day they could give me 40% off and to come back after I was released to settle things...So I signed a bunch of papers...la la la

So then I went back to waiting with Bryan and all the other sick people and we waited and waited and waited some more...from 2am till 5 am. Tina called when she woke up to go to work, she said she was worried cuz I wasn’t there but my car was and stuff...I felt bad I didn’t leave a note or let her know but I told her I wasn’t really in a good state and my mind was on other things. So yeah then around 5 a guy came out and called 3 or 4 people and took us all to our rooms. I was in one of those long, glass enclosed rooms that hold a few people...right by the nurses station. He brought me a gown and 2 nice warm blankets and hooked me up to the machines and such so I tried to get comfy and get some sleep...it wasn’t really working because the nurse was talking to the guy next to me so I was just listening in on their conversation...apparently he was younger and had meningitis or something and lost use of one side of his body or something like that...sad stuff...So I was just kinda lying around and watching my vitals like hmm...everyone once in a while the thingy would automatically take my blood pressure...I’d be kinda dozing and then all of a sudden feel the pressure around my arm like hmm...interesting stuff...

Eventually a doctor came by and said that my blood work looked ok and asked me some questions about family history and how my pain was and so on and stuff...then he said he was gonna look at my chest xrays and he’d be back in a little bit...so I kinda fell back to sleep and then the morning nurse came in and took my temperature and asked how I was doing and how strong the pain was and I told her much lower than when I came in. I asked her if someone could call my work to let them know I wasn’t gonna be able to make it in...she said there was a phone by the bed and gave it to me and I left a message for them...then I asked her if I was allowed to have visitors and she’s like 1 or 2 if I wanted so I asked her to page Bryan cuz he was waiting out in the waiting room for a while and I didn’t want him to worry...so she paged him back and a short while after he arrived the doctor stopped by again and said that the chest x-rays looked fine and said he thought that I just had acute bronchitis and that with my cough that I had for 3 weeks the muscles in my chest were overworked...he didn’t mention anything about the fact that I was on Vioxx for 2 ¼ years...oh well...he gave me a prescription for an albuterol inhaler and said that it should help relax my lungs and relieve the pain and he said if I didn’t feel better in a week to come back and they could try some antibiotics and he said I was ok to be released so the nurse unhooked all the sensors and took out my iv thingy, ew :-p Then I had to pick off like 20 of the sticker sensor things, lovely...then we left and I stopped by the reception desk to ask about the bill and the lady check the computer and said that Michelle had everything taken care of...I’m not sure if that means the bill is in the mail or it was covered by Medicaid (doubt it) oh well, I guess I'll find out soon enough.

So yeah we left and came home to sleep. I noticed that I felt better when I layed on my back but that’s not usual for me so I was kinda uncomfortable and couldn’t really sleep:-( There was a knock at the door and it was a nationwide insurance guy looking for damage from the hurricane...he was like “sorry if I woke you up” and I was like “no problem, I wasn’t really sleeping"...so he was in and out and I tried to get some sleep and eventually I did...then when we got up we went to get all my drugs and then out to eat at Friendly’s where I had a delicious BBQ chicken dinner…YUMMY! We got the free happy ending sundaes but I was so full I couldn’t finish all of it...how depressing...I love ice cream! Oh well...then we left and stopped by Wal-Mart for good crayons and coloring books and then we came home and got some movies from the front office and came back and watched them (School of Rock, Gone in 60 Seconds and then Can’t Hardly wait we watched last night).

Then time for some more sleep…and then work and went I got in this girl came by and had a gift bag and gave it to me…and I’m all puzzled and I’m like “For me?” and she’s like “yeah” so like wow! I don’t even know her name…I mean she comes over from time to time to request stuff and all but dude she just totally basically gave a stranger a present, I was like rock on for the nice people in the world and random acts of kindness, I LOVE IT!
