Welcome to America! And it's not all flat. Go west a bit and you'll hit some mountains and hills. Visit Del Water Gap, it's in NJ - actually the PA/NJ border I believe it is.
Don't be fooled by the fat claims - just because it's lower in fat doesn't mean you can pig out! And if it contains Olestra it may give you the runs. We Americans are big on every damned diet/health warning - thus all the labeling. Low carbs! Low sodium! No sugar! Less fat! The list is endless.
And welcome to the land of Walmart. I dearly wish they would go boom. I hate Walmart.
Road signs - yes you need all those signs and you STILL get lost! :D Well - at least I do and always in NJ. I want to go west and I end up going east somehow. No left turns.
When you get settled you'll have to take the ferry over to NYC. Go see a show on broadway. Walk through Central Park. The street vendors are kinda cool. And wear comfortable shoes!
We're going upstate New York to see mountains and the colour change of the leaves. I'm really looking forward to that. Otherwise I'm planning on doing a lot of trips to the City, to really get everything. One day isn't nearly enough.
The roadsigns? I think about half of them do more to confuse you, than actually give you information... You have no idea how often we've missed the exit we were supposed to take, or driven the wrong direction or ended up driving in circle...
I'm so amused by how even the most unhealthy food items are marked like they're diet safe. No wonder if people get confused. No worry, I think I'll stick with my European way of eating anyway. I really don't feel the need to include chips or fries in half of my meals...
Heeheehee, I love reading about us from a non-American's point of view. Yep, we're fat. And eat lots of unhealthy crap. And way too much of it. Take heart--we're not all like that. I cook my own meals and rarely eat junk food. And weigh 125 pounds...which for an American is good, heehee! Hope things get better! yes, lots of trees here. chinese fortune cookies are fun!
Do I have to tell you how shocked I was at the size of a serving at the cinema? I (reasonably enough) ordered a small Coce and popcorn, and walked away with a huge bag and almost a liter of pop! It was the size of a medium to large serving at home...
Did you know that Norwegian students that sign up for exchange programs (one year in the US) are warned to expect a five to ten kilo (about ten to twenty pounds) weight gain? Now I know why.
