It started with a cough.
No one saw it coming. Then one day Robert's chest heaved, and he stared down in horror at the smattering of blood on his hand. blood from his lungs. Only She knew at first, his devil and angel combined.
She stood by him through the painful tests, and waited for the news.
The doctor looked at him with a mournful expression. "Mr. Pattinson, I'm afraid you have a stage 4 carcinoma In your lungs."
He was stunned. "I...Have a...what?"
"You're dying, sir. Of cancer."
He couldn't speak or think. She cried when he told her. A year. He was 26 fucking years old, and only had a year to live. Why?
Turn away, and If you could get me a drink, of water cause my lips are chapped and faded,
He was always thirsty from the chemo. He grew weaker every day, until one day he couldn't hide it, and he stood and was brave as every girl in the world cried.
Call my Aunt Marie, help her gather all my things, and bury me in all my favorite colors, my sisters and my brothers still...
She made the calls to his family. Smiles were hard to come by as they packed his things, selling what wasn't needed and storing what they could not part with. His sisters flew in as fast as they could, and Kellan and Jackson-as close to real brothers as possible- never left more than necessary.
I will not kiss you...Because the hardest part of this is leaving you...
At first he was still able to please her, but he began to dwindle away, and now he refused and she always cried at the pain in his eyes.
Now turn away, because I'm aweful just to see, cause all my hair's abandoned all my body,
She cried when his hair fell out. He simply woke one morning with his head bare, those amazing locks lying forlorn on his pillow. It was torture to her, watching him waste away. His eyes were sunken, his face gaunt...It became harder and harder to see him as beautiful.
All my agony, Know that I will never marry,
"I'm...Sorry...Kristen," he rasped in the whisper that was all his voice could muster, and he winced at the pain of trying to fill his lungs.
She choked back a sob. "Don't..."
He coughed again. "I'm dissapointment..."
"I love you...you don't need a marriage to say that."
"would have been...nice..."
Baby I'm just soggy from the chemo, I'm counting down the days to go...
Time flew past them. He tried to keep up, tried and failed. There was a wall he couldn't pass. He was weak and wasted. He tried to be brave, for his family and friends, for his fans, and above all for Kristen. Days merged into weeks, weeks into months, months into...nothingness.
It just ain't living, and I just hope you know...
He told her he loved her everyday. She never left his bedside, crying as he wasted away, and he slipped into delerious mutterings. A month from death and he could no longer breath on his own. It began to dawn on her that this was real...that Robert Pattinson was actually dying.
That if you say, goodbye today, I'ld ask you to be true...
She was right with him when he lost the fight. It was quick and peaceful, him sliding into a coma, his heart slowing then stopping, slipping away with her hand in his and her favorite crooked smile on his pale face. She buried her face in Jackson's shoulder, soaking his shirt with her tears. She had begged him not to leave her, but he did anyway.
Because the hardest part of this is leaving you...ooohh...
The funeral was murder. Rob had asked to be cremated, and Jackson's band plade the most beautiful version of amazing grace she had ever heard, as the flames consumed him. The were indecision as to where to spread his ashes, until they settled on the england coast. Except of course, the tiny piece she keeps with her...
Because the Hardest part of this is leaving you...
