Scary Oakland Living

So I was warned about moving here by several people, most of them actual Californians, who consider Oakland terrifying. After moving here, people still like to occasionally remind me that this is one of the six likeliest cities for you to be murdered in (if you are involved in drugs/gang activity). Lol, I know, right?! These are actually the most mellow geese in the world. They had hatchlings a while back, and people were getting right up in their faces with cameras and stuff. I was expecting the geese to throwdown, like what you'd expect from geese, but they were just too fat to care.

I imagine if you were feeding them, they'd start swarming you, though. Geese are like zombies that way.

People tend to forget that the really touristy parts of Oakland (e.g. Jack London Square and environs) exist as well as the terrifying parts of it. Hell, there are parts of San Francisco where I still won't go at night. I'm looking at you, SoMa and Tenderloin districts. . .

Also, I apparently haven't been paying attention. When'd you end up back in the Bay Area?

The only friends of mine who've been mugged in this area have been mugged in San Francisco. Andy was accosted on the streets of SF walking back from work. We didn't entertain the thought of living there for long.

I moved back down here in May. :D
