Would you prefer explanations along with the votes? Yes, please.
Would you prefer the replies to remain spoiler free? I haven't finished the books, but I pretty much know what happens, so...have at it!
:: Evil Does Well
What defines a villain for you? Why? For me, the hero/villian debate is always difficult. Someone's villian is someone else's hero and vice versa, right? I suppose I would classify a villian as someone who does something cruel or inhumane, either for their own gain or just for the hell of it.
What is the best back-story (past) a villain can have, and why? Some sort of tragedy befalling the villain, especially horrifying if it happens to the villain as a child before they can understand what is happening.
What should be a villain's perfect weapon, and why? Determination and cunning. It's not a physical weapon, but if they've got one or both of those, it's not going to matter - they'd most likely become unstoppable.
What is the appropriate weakness for the ultimate villain, and why? Love and/or regret. In my mind, those would be the only things that could weaken the strongest villain except for Voldemort, but I'm not going to get into that.
:: The Evils of the World
Name a few of your favorite literary/t.v./movie villains: Lord Voldemort and Bellatrix Lestrange (Harry Potter), the Camerlengo (Angels and Demons), Leigh Teabing (The Da Vinci Code), Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd)
Choose one (of the mentioned above) villain and explain why he's the perfect villain: Oh Sweeney. He's such a complex character and he's touted as the hero of the musical/movie. However, he's actually the villain - I mean, he slaughters as many men as he can on his way to get revenge on one! He's almost a sympathetic villain, because even though he's gone completely batshit, you still want to feel bad for him.
I know I'm just supposed to talk about one, but I also wanted to mention the Camerlengo and Leigh Teabing from the Dan Brown books. They learn how to get all the "good guys" on their side while leading the "bad guys" - if that's not brilliant, I don't know what is!
:: This or That
Works Alone or Leads an Army? Works alone
Angry or Numb? Angry
Capable of Love or Incapable of Love? It's a tough call. While it's terrifying if someone is incapable of love, it's all the more horrifying if they are...so I'll say capable of love.
Eerily Sane or Completely Insane? Eerily sane
Blood-hungry or Revenge-Seeking? Revenge-seeking
God-complex or Problem with Authority? Problem with authority
:: The Road to Hell is Paved with Good Intentions
The villain of your story once belonged to a 'happy' family, until something happens, and they're dead. What do you think happened? An enemy of the villain sought revenge - it goes both ways!
The villain of your story falls in love with a girl, but another man claims her (being richer and better). What do you think this does to him? I would assume it would make him angry, and that he would start plotting against the other man.
The villain of your story had been holding a woman ransom - occasionally torturing her - and for some reason, when someone's about to kill him, she stops them. What should be his reaction? Shock, initially! Then perhaps gratitude or even love.
