:: The Sound Beneath the Song
List a few of the instruments you like to hear most in your music: violin, bagpipes (I know, right?), acoustic guitar, drums, electric guitar, pianos are okay, trumpets & trombones have a nice sound in moderation, I don't like too much bass, I hate saxophones
Pick a favorite of the above list and explain why you like it the most: Violin - I've always loved the violin because of the different feelings it can produce. It can be the sweetest, most mournful music you've ever heard or it can be a spirited, feet-tapping musical dance.
What kind of melody/rhythm/beat do you like to hear in the music you listen to? Why? I tend to like more upbeat music, anything that I can dance to really. (Not good for a lullaby when you're trying to fall asleep, I know!) I like music that gets stuck in your head and you find yourself singing snippets all day long; I think this annoys most people, but I don't mind it.
List a few of your favorite music genres: Alternative rock, punk, hard rock, oldies, Motown, some pop, some indie, some country, a few metal groups; I am not fond of classical or jazz.
Pick one music genre and explain why you like it best: Alternative rock is probably my new favorite. I think what I like most about it is the tone; I like the rock feel with the fun punk influence. A lot of alternative also has meaningful lyrics, more than others genres. I can dance to most any music, but it is the lyrics that make a song my favorite, that makes me remember it throughout the day.

:: Your Lullaby Should Be (This or That)
Happy or Sad: happy
Sweet or Bittersweet: sweet
Loud or Soft: depends, but I'd say more towards the loud end
Soothing or Stirring: stirring
Fun or Calm: fun
Lonely or Comforting: comforting

:: The Soul in the Music
Pick your one favorite album at the moment and explain why it's your favorite: "Albatross" by The Classic Crime has been one of my favorite albums for awhile now. There isn't a song on this Christian alternative CD that doesn't have 5 stars and hasn't been played dozens of times. It's a very energetic album with strong, passionate lyrics. Their songs create beautiful imagery as well.
Listen to "The Poet"
Listen to "The Fight"
Pick your one favorite song (with LYRICS) at the moment and explain why it's your favorite:
"Honestly" by VOTA

...
Let the light escape
From these holes inside my soul
When I start to break
Then grace begins to flow
Let the light escape
From this wounded place inside my soul
Honestly
...
If you don't see the real me
You won't see what grace has done
If you don't see my weakness
You won't see what love has won
If you don't see the distance from the darkness to the sun
You won't see

I love this song because it shows that no matter how lost we were, how dark, how wounded, we can always be saved by grace. Showing weakness really only shows how far one has come into the light.
Pick your one favorite song (WITHOUT lyrics, an instrumental track) at the moment and explain why it's your favorite:
Okay, I'm looking through my music and I don't see many songs without lyrics; however, I do have the Lord of the Rings soundtrack and those are pretty awesome. I think my favorite songs are the ones in Rohan with the mournful strains of violins that remind me of mountains and despair. Makes me sad, but hopeful, because I know the time of sorrow is almost over and there will be peace again.
Here's someone playing the song
Pick your one favorite vocalist/artist at the moment and explain why he/she is your favorite:
Ladyhawke is my new favorite singer. She's from New Zealand and plays all the instruments in her songs. She has an amazing voice and sings fun songs that have an eighties feel to them.
Listen to "Paris is Burning"
Pick your one favorite band/group at the moment and explain why they are your favorite:
Anberlin has been one of my favorite bands for awhile. They're similar to The Classic Crime, but have a quicker tempo and a fast beat (on their fast songs). They have poetic lyrics that don't always make sense on the first listen.
Listen to "Adelaide"
Listen to "Godspeed"

:: Killing Me Softly
If your lover were to serenade you with a song as a way to demonstrate his love and understanding of you, what song would he pick and why? My favorite love song has always been "I Will Always Love You" by Whitney Houston. It's a little ridiculous, but I guess love makes you feel that way. If he wanted to sing something more toned down that would be fine, as long as it wasn't too mushy or depressing.
Listen to "I Will Always Love You"
If you had to pick a song to define yourself, which song would you pick and why? "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrision is a good song for me - cheerful, fun, and I have brown eyes!
Your last message to the world (before you leave it) has to be through song. What song do you decide to send to your loved ones and why? My sense of humor wants to send something clever like the "Circle of Life" or "Believe" by Cher… but I guess I might send "The '59 Sound" by The Gaslight Anthem - it's a sadder song about death that I think suites me.
Listen to "The '59 Sound"
