:: Lessons Learned
What is/was your favorite school subject? Why? In elementary school science was my favorite; animals, rocks, clouds, that was fun. However, in high school when science shifted more to cells and chemicals and dropping things, I lost interest, and my favorite subject was history.
What is/was your least favorite school subject? Why? I couldn't really say that I have a least favorite subject; I have had classes with poor teachers that I disliked, but in every subject I've had at least one teacher that made the class enjoyable.
Have you ever taken a school subject(class) you thought would be more interesting than it was? What happened? How would you have made it better? Absolutely. College classes often seem to be one endless lecture with fill-in-the-blank powerpoints. Classes should have as much variety as possible - pictures, games, music, activities, anything else to make learning fun and help you remember.
:: Footprints in our Minds
Have you ever had a teacher you loved and respected? Why that person?
Have you ever had a teacher you loathed and looked down on? Why that person? My least favorite teach would have to be the one in a college lifeguarding class. There were only two girls in the class, including myself, and the teacher was very cold to us. She would praise the boys and then criticize both of us girls. I would call my dad after each class almost in tears, and he would tell me how much she didn't know what she was talking about.
In your opinion, all teachers should approach their occupation like... what? How would you recommend teachers to be? Teachers (myself included) should approach their occupation like learners. We need to look at things through they eyes of students and think of every way to improve. A thirst for learning is vital as well.
:: Perpetual Homework
Do you prefer verbal or written exams? Why? I prefer written.
Do you learn more through discussions or simply reading books? Why? Discussions.
Do you prefer exams with long detailed questions (requiring detailed answers) or simple questions (with multiple choice answers already listed)? I guess I prefer a mix - if I know a lot about a subject, I feel comfortable with writing long essays. However, multiple choice tests are good too.
Would you rather do a pretty big project or a pretty big oral report? I'd rather do a big project, I've done many of them and they don't bother me; I really dislike oral presentations.
Would you rather have a more interactive class or a robotic 'hand-in and be graded' class? Absolutely more interactive.
:: Teaching Should Be an Ideal
You're late for class, what does your teacher do? Find out why. The punishment needs to fit the crime - make up work or an after-class session may be necessary.
You hand in your assignment two weeks early, what does your teacher tell you? "Great. I'll check it over and let you know if there are any areas you could use improvement"
Your teacher discovers that, even though you had been assigned to a team to complete a project, you've been the one doing most (if not all) of the workload. What does he do? That's how it always is in my case. My teachers have been very understanding, but less involved than I would like. I would prefer a group project where each member is assigned a specific task.
Your teacher catches a student cheating on an exam, what does he do? Find out why. They would definitely be punished in some way best for the student.
You're outside school, enjoying an ordinary day (at the mall, a park, a beach, wherever you like) when you see your teacher not too far from you... how does the interaction play out between both of you? It's nice - they ask how I'm doing, how life outside of school is.
