So... I'm a member of the message boards over at the Lexicon. I think I have been for about a year now. That's usually where I go if I'm looking for the newest news or something to that effect. I barely ever go onto the message boards anymore anyways ( Read more... )

I'll be honest... if I could get my paws on an early copy of BD, I'd totally read it. XD And I'll be a nasty old cynic here and say that the only reason she's all that concerned about them passing copies around is that she wants to get as many people into those stores to buy the book at first blush as possible.

Too many previews/spoilers/etc and people might start thinking about waiting for the pb, or not buying it at all.

Will I be there at midnight when it's released? Hells yeah. But still... cynic. XD

I'm not even sure the bookstore here is having a midnight release... sigh. I'll probably just go up early on Saturday and pick up my pre-ordered copy... then spend the day reading it and not looking at the computer.

I'm just frustrated about that this morning. I'm not sure I want things spoiled for myself, but I keep thinking about the whole freedom of speech thing... and how if I want to talk about something, I'm going to talk about it. lol.

That's an ex-newspaper reporter for you. Talk or burst from keeping it in.

I'm with you. I'd get my hands on a copy and ask as many of my friends as I could if they wanted to know. I mean, they'll still read the book, so it wouldn't hurt her sales. Dude, I'd say after living through the HP series, it would just make me want to buy my own copy and read it more to see if the leaks were write or not.

It's going to happen. If HP7 got leaked (a little) then this will too. It's just the way of the world now.

I don't get shutting down boards. I'm going to go on self-imposed LJ lockdown a few days before just so I don't see anything that might spoil it for me. But it's a personal choice. She needs to let go of the reins a little bit.

It's one of those things where... yeah if this were ten years ago it'd be an entirely different thing altogether. There was barely internet and it wasn't as sophisticated as it is today. Her books might have been a passing fancy if it hadn't been for the internet in my opinion.

She should act more like some of the other celebs... I think I read Mike Meyers or some funny guy being all like "yea, my fans are my bosses and if they want an autograph while I'm in a restaurant, I'm going to give them one."

lol. then again... I'm not sure that I would be caught dead in any restaurant if I were a celeb.

I just think she's being a little pretentious about the whole thing. I mean, if someone wants to know what's going to happen badly enough, they'll be able to find out. Someone at a bookstore can be bought off for enough money. I mean, it's a book. A book. We will all know what happens soon enough, so if someone wants to find out they can. If you don't want to know, just go on lockdown.

I'm with you.
