I got up at 7am this morning. Discounted many failed fishing trips in the past, this is the earliest I've gotten up on a Sunday morning since I was a paperboy ( Read more... )

hmm.. how long have you had the drive itself? I'd try partition magic, might want to check out Symantec's website to see if there are any diagnostic tools there as well.

Okay, first off... it's hard to hear this, but your hard drive will probably die. It's almost always due to heat. The good thing is that 120gb hard drives are only $129 now, so it's no big deal. :) I'd get a new one and copy everything over. After that, you can use it as a secondary drive, and you'll probably get another month of use out of it before it starts doing the DEATH CLICK ( ... )

Yeah, SIGuardian uses S.M.A.R.T. and every day it tells me that the hard drive is going to die on that very day. I've been using computers since I was a young'un and I've never had a hard drive die on me :~(

You know, I haven't had a drive die on me either until 2000. Then I had 3 frickin' drives die in a row, each 8-12 months apart.

I figured out that it was the heat. I had to stack them all on top of eachother cause I bought this awesome case with no room in it.

All the new (7200rpm) drives are really sensitive to heat. Buy a fan. :)

I have 5 of them, what the fuck (and only two hard drives, not stacked). How many fucking fans do I need?
