". . . with a knick knack paddy whack give a dog a bone, this old man came rolling home." What the fuck does that mean?! It seems to have a faintly sinister anti-Irish sentiment attached to it, but that's about all I can figure out. And don't even get me going on "e-i-e-i-o"And what about that children's rhyme "Ring Around the Rosey?" I remember ( Read more... )

Good friends are the only ones we can depend on to give us the hard stuff because they care enough to take that risk.

Is part of your anxiety being away from your home? It's certainly understandable. When do you leave? Let's talk before you go.

Mark's right. That is hard advice. I'm not sure I could do it but I just might try.

Hi, yes the nursery rhyme does refer to the Black Plague. It's real name is the Bubonic Plague and was carried by diseased rats living in the dirty, smelly cities. I'm in the UK and the version I know goes like this:

Ring around the rosies (Rose coloured sores)
A pocketful of posies (People believed the plague was caused by the bad smells and so carried posies, scented handkerchiefs etc to mask the smell.)
Atishoo, atishoo (Sneezing, a symptom of the disease.)
We all fall down! (Death.)

You'll find lots of different interpretations of it but those are what I was taught in school.

I just saw Hugh Jackman on Inside the Actors' Studio the other night. I had no idea how queeny he is. Straight, huh? Yeah, he's about six inches from being Elton John's poolboy.

My opinion: if you try to leave David and Tiny completely out of your vacation/cruise, it's going to be disastrous for you. You won't be able to do it. (Even if you did, returning home to it would be incredibly painful and probably counterproductive.) I do agree, however, that you should go for you time more than anything else. Pick a time, be it early in the day before you get started with plans, or in the evening before retiring, to take a few moments to meditate or spiritually connect with your lost loved ones. Think of it as if you were going on vacation alone and would need to call home and let them know everything is all right. It's just a different type of call.
