Summary: Neria Rayne was just an ordinary girl who has a forgotten past. Until, one day, she found a journal in the public library. The moment she read an entry, a chain of events has begun that'll lead Neria to her destiny. A destiny that'll only start the Eternal War yet again.
Author's Notes: I suck at writing summaries.
Chapter One
Have you ever felt as though something was missing?
A part of you that you just forgotten?
Or is it something else?
What if you forgot who you really are?
Does that mean everything you know was a lie?
Or was it something more?
“You sound as though you’re in a good mood today Neria,” Faye said, smiling, as he found his best friend in the park. He walked over to Neria who looked back at him with amused grayish blue eyes. She pushed back her black blue hair before answering, “Well, I just got a feeling that today is going to be a good day.”
“Oh no, another one of your intuition?” the blonde asked with a dramatic eye roll.
Neria shrugged. She said, “Call it intuition if you want Faye, but I just got a feeling that something interesting is going to happen today.”
The blonde shrugged. He stated, “Well, if you say so Neria. I can’t say anything
about your intuition. It always seems to come true anyway. Are you sure you’re secretly not a psychic or something?”
Neria laughed.
She replied, “No, I’m not psychic. I guess I’m just really good at guessing things.”
“Really good,” muttered Faye under his breath.
Neria, then, looked at him curiously.
She asked, “So, what brings you here?”
Faye shrugged. "I was heading to the library when I saw you. Gotta get there soon though. Gramps wanted to make sure I don't miss my studies. Again."
“Well, of course. You’re supposed to be learning to become a Historian, right? You shouldn’t miss out on your studies.”
The blonde raised an eyebrow. “What about you then? You’re supposed to be learning to become a doctor, but I don’t see you studying about that.”
Neria laughed sheepishly. She answered, “Well, my mom is at the hospital today so she cancelled our studying for later tonight. I was actually going to the library now to check out some medical books.”
“Uh huh. Whatever you say Ria,” Faye retorted, smirking.
Neria grinned. The two began walking and started to talk about trivial things such as school, work, and of course, the latest rumors about who‘s dating who. When they arrived at the library, Faye saw an old man with black eyes dressed in a traditional Chinese robe looking at him with a frown. The blonde grinned and waved.
“Yo, Gramps,” he greeted. Neria wisely took a step aside as the old man suddenly jumped and kicked Faye in the head. The blonde landed at the bottom of the stairs with a crash. Groaning, Faye got up and rubbed his aching head. He glared at the old man.
“You know, that’s considered child abuse!” Faye accused. The old man snorted.
He retorted, “It’s not considered child abuse if you’re no longer a child Fei Long.”
“It’s Faye. Not Fei Long,” the blonde growled as he glared at his grandpa. “Besides, even if I’m 18, it’s still considered abuse Gramps!”
His grandpa ignored him before turning to Neria. He greeted, “Hello Neria. How is your mother doing?”
“Hello Mr. Long. Mother’s doing fine. She’s at work right now,” Neria replied, smiling.
Faye pouted at that before walking over to them. He asked, “Is it ok if Neria come with us Gramps?” Mr. Long shrugged.
“You know that’s not possible. Only those who are studying to become a Historian is allowed in the back room. I’m afraid Neria must remain outside, brat.
Faye felt his eye twitch at that but wisely kept quiet. Neria rolled her eyes. It was always amusing to see Faye and his grandpa together. As they entered the library, Neria suddenly felt a strong wave of nostalgia. She shuddered slightly as she tried to ignore the sudden nostalgia. This always happened when she came to the library. While Faye and his grandpa went to one of the back rooms to study, Neria walked over to the medical section and scanned through the books. One of them caught her eye and she took it off of the shelf. She opened it and was surprised to see that it was an old journal; not a medical book.
She debated whether or not to read it before coming to a conclusion. Shrugging, she sat down at one of the tables and skipped to a page in the middle of the book.
October 25
For many centuries, we have lived in peace, at least, until now. The Eternal War has begun again and this time, we cannot escape it. Our destinies have called out to us but those of us, who has resisted, had been punished by Fate. Their lives had been stolen from them and now, they have been tied down in chains. Why has this happened to us? All we ever wanted was to be free from this endless cycle of fighting. Why won’t they let us simply be free? What was so wrong with that?
The Council are a group of fools. They have chosen a new Hero - the one who shall lead us in this war. They have made a mistake. They had chosen a Hero we all refuse to follow. The First child of Memoir - Abel, and the first Traitor of Salvation.
Alicia
“That’s a journal from the Eternal Wars. It’s been documented here in the library for years,” a voice suddenly said from behind Neria. Startled, the brunette turned around to see a guy with red hair and green eyes. Well, eye. His other eye had an eye patch around it. The guy smiled at Neria reassuringly before sitting down next to her.
Neria looked at him for a second before asking, “Eternal Wars?”
“You don’t know about it? I guess I’m not surprised. Only those who are training to become Historians and Philosophers know about the Eternal Wars,” the guy replied as he leaned back in his chair. Neria looked at him quizzically causing him to smile.
He explained, “The Eternal Wars is a history of wars that has been continuing for ages. That journal you’re reading there is from one of the participants of the Eternal Wars. Alicia - the only witness that had survived the war.”
Neria closed the journal while saying, “You seem to be pretty knowledgeable about this. Are you a Historian-in-training as well?”
“You could say that. The name’s Deke, by the way. Deke Nocturne. Pleased to meet you Neria Rayne,” Deke replied, grinning.
Neria looked at him in surprised causing Deke to grin wider.
He explained, “Faye talked about you a few times. A doctor-in-training am I right?”
“Correct,” Neria answered, smirking.
Deke smirked at that until he felt someone smack a book on the back of his head. Neria blinked in surprise while Deke rubbed his head. He turned around to see a girl with long, blonde hair and grayish blue eyes looking down at him. The girl raised an eyebrow at him.
She asked, “Aren’t you supposed to be studying Deke?”
“Aw, c’mon Alice, you know as well as I do that I need to rest once in a while,” Deke whined with a pout.
Nella ignored him and looked at Neria. She said, “I apologize if this idiot has been bothering you. I’m Alice Knight. Friends call me Ali though.”
Neria chuckled and smiled. She replied, “It’s no trouble at all. Are you studying to become a Historian as well?”
“Are you kidding? Nella? Learning to become a Historian?” Deke laughed while ignoring the glare his friend was giving him. “Alice hates boring things like that. She likes reading books but she can never have the patience of learning to become a historian. Her memory sucks too.”
The redhead yelped when his friend slammed the book on his head again. She turned to Neria. “No, I’m not becoming a Historian. Actually, I’m learning how to become a poet.”
“A poet, huh? That’s pretty cool,” Neria stated.
Alice smiled a bit at her before looking down at Deke. She said, “C’mon you lazy redhead. You got to make it to the backroom before your uncle starts yelling and I don’t need having him wrecking havoc in this place.”
“You’re not the one who has to try to calm him down. Allen’s the one who has to calm him down,” Deke pointed out.
Neria started at the name. Allen? Why did that name sound so familiar to her all of a sudden? It felt as though that name had triggered something inside of her. She quickly snapped back to reality when Alice said, “Yes, and I feel sorry for my twin brother. You’re the one who has to make it up to him if Hunter grows impatient with you. I don’t think you’d want to drag Neria into his chaos either.”
Deke was quiet for a moment before shrugging.
“You got a point there,” he remarked before he was suddenly punched in the face.
Alice and Neria both turned to see someone who looks exactly like Alice except that his hair was platinum blonde and it shorter hair. He also has a scar over his left eye. Neria assumed that this is the Allen that the other two was talking about. Allen glared at Deke. He growled, “So this is where you’ve been you useless rabbit. Do you know how fucking hard it is to get Hunter to wait for you while you flirt with some random stranger?”
“But, you’re so good at calming the womanizer down Al! And Neria’s not some random stranger. She’s Faye’s friend!” Deke protested while giving him his infamous puppy pout. Allen just glared at him before looking over at Neria and smiling slightly.
“If you don’t mind, I’ll be taking him for a bit. He’s late for his studies.”
“I don’t mind. You can take him,” Neria replied with a grin.
Deke looked at Neria with a defeated look in his eye before sighing. “Oh, fine. Three against one isn’t fair you know.”
“We know,” the trio answered in unison.
Neria waved at the twins as they proceeded to drag Deke to one of the backrooms. After they were gone, Neria frowned a bit. That Allen person seemed strange. Where did he get that scar from? And why did he feel so familiar to her? Sighing, she looked down at the journal in her hands. She wondered if it would be ok to check this out.
“She’s one of us?” Alice asked in surprise as she looked over at her brother. Deke looked down at the scarred twin who nodded. He ran a hand through his hair and answered, “Yes. I recognized her the minute I saw her. For someone with her kind of power, it’s hard not to be familiar with her.”
“But she doesn’t remember anything,” Deke pointed out. Alice nodded in agreement. Allen looked over at them. He said, “You two didn’t remember anything either until you reached a certain age. Her memories are returning to her as we speak.”
“Do you think she’ll know about what happened in the last war?” his twin questioned. Allen shrugged.
He replied, “Who knows.”
“I’m quite surprised you don’t know what happened in the last war, Allen. Out of the three of us, you’re the first to regain your memories,” Deke sighed.
The scarred twin smiled ruefully. He remarked, “I guess I just forgot what happened.”
Nella and Deke glanced at each other before sighing in defeat. As they walked, they didn’t notice that Allen was lagging behind. The scarred twin glanced over his shoulder back at Neria and inwardly gave a sad smile. He felt guilty for lying to his twin and his best friend, but he believed that it was better this way. After all, those two are still slowly regaining their memories themselves. Allen turned his head and quietly chuckled. He found it ironic that after all these years, they were all gathered again.
Alicia, the sole survivor of the Eternal Wars. It’ll be interesting to meet the First Child of Eve again once she’s regained her memories, Allen mused. He snapped back to reality when he heard Deke call out his name. The platinum blonde rolled his eyes.
“I’m coming Deke. Don’t rush me,” he called back. With one last glance at Neria, Allen quickly headed to where Deke and Nella was waiting for him.
The moment you regain your memories Neria Rayne, that’s when the War shall begin again.
Neria looked up when she heard a whisper in her head and she shuddered. That voice sounded a lot like Allen. How can that be? Shrugging, she glanced at the journal before getting up to pick out another book. What she didn’t notice though was someone in the shadows looking at her. A smirk appeared on the stranger’s face before he faded into the shadows.
