So, Dexter (my lappy) has been having lots of "lighting" issues. MAJOR ones recently... His backlight is practically gone. I think I remember the techs at CompUSA telling me that if my backlight goes out, I might as well buy a new computer. Any auggestions? What are your main wants for yur new lappy 486? (Portabilit, Ability to play and use new oses, programs, etc)
What type of new OS? (I suggest the Debian Variant, Ubuntu)
Min specs, and so forth.
I suggest dell, because I am its h.... I mean, I have had great luck with their deck support. (Old Lappy 486 still going strong after almost 4 years now.) And by deck, I mean tech. Also, with one of their coupons or with the EPP (Ask me later :D) its a great deal.
Off for more fun and aventure (And webtv for some reason can no longer handle the ure immense POWA that is gmail)

Ummm... yes, portability is important. I've only ever taken Dex out of the house... mm, four times (two locations), but that was because I was scared of losing it at the high school. Another thing I'd like is for it to be able to play RPGs rather smoothly (so, good graphics?). And I still want my CD/DVD-ROM. Oh, is being able to access the internet away from home a part of the laptop capabilities from the start, or is there a piece of hardware I have to buy for that?
Ummmmmm... I dun really know anything about OSes (only for Macs), but I've heard good things about Debian, and I trust you :-).
UMMMMM... Dells. Hmm. Well, I checked 'em out and found this one. As for its portage: I dunno, I guess two is enough for the outdoors. I know I'll eventually buy a hub for home anyway...
I prefer the look (body) of the Inspiron 6000, but ... Well, I don't really *like* wide screens (heh, sorry, Cameron!), but EH. I just want a new compy ( ... )
