I just ran across this question and I'm interested to know what you all would do...

Would you cut off your own good hand, if you knew it would magically solve poverty in the world?

If it "solved" poverty, like brought everyone to the same level, then no. But if it solved poverty in the particular way that it would actually make life better and not be quite scary and communist to the point that everyone had the same stuff, then no. It would be a yes in principle, but honestly, I don't think I could actually go through the act of cutting off my own hand. If I could get it surgically removed, sure. But I couldn't cut it off myself.

Count me among those cynical enough to think that "solving poverty" sounds just a little too much like a "Final Solution" to embrace without clarification. Hey, vaporize the planet and you've solved poverty, ness pah? :-)
