so my computer ate my offlines messages on my yahoo messenger this morning before i got to read them or see who they were from . . . anybody know a way that i can retrieve them still?

If you have your computer set up to automatically log your conversations (which you can set up in prefrences) then they will be saved. Otherwise, they are gone.

i wasnt actually talking to anyone . . . it was a message received while i was not logged in . . . ~sighs~ oh well, nothing to be done now

Still, it should get logged (I think). I use Trillian which auto logs everything anyway, even YIM offline messages.

Most likely they will be in your log as most instant messagers log all conversations by default. However unless you know who sent the IMs it will be tricky to find them.
