[You know what's hard? EATING. Ling has a bad habit of, you know, not doing that sometimes. The arrival of Greed's old gang, Ed coming out of a coma, and the various other odd and unusual things have led Ling to, quite unfortunately, skipping meals. And when he does that, he crashes hard. Which is why ( Read more... )

I don't see age as an issue, but it seems most people prefer to marry in their late teens or early-to-mid twenties. The length of time they should know one another should be at least enough to tell what sort of person they are, and what annoying habits they may have. Getting into fights because they left the toilet seat up or dropped their shoes in the middle of the floor could be avoided this way.

... And one wife is plenty.

So would you say we'd need more time before I offered to make you my wife?

It doesn't matter how much time passes. You're already too late -- I have a boyfriend.

[... Even if he kind of cheated to get that position, but hey.]

Well I was only a few years short of a hundred the first time, which feels full young, to tell you the truth.

You don't look a day over seventy.

[he pushes back his hair and straightens his bowtie, eyebrows popping up in a joking way]

I'm aging gracefully. What do you want more than one wife for anyway? I feel like I should warn you, it isn't quite the party it sounds.

Oh, it's just something I'll have to do once I become Emperor. It doesn't hurt to be prepared.

[Casually. Because this isn't a big deal at all.]

[And yet he doesn't. He does seem to moan something out, but it's not quite loud enough to be heard.]

[That's a shame! Because Ling doesn't speak any louder at all.]

Depends on where you're from. My culture tends to think anything under twenty is a bit young.

Same; depends on who you ask and your culture's expectations. It varies a lot where I'm from, although usually something less than a year tends to earn the couple a few funny looks from most people.

...And again, the same; depends on where you're from. Where I come from, it's actually illegal to have more than one wife unless it's a certain religion...but I'm not sure if that's still considered illegal or not.

Your culture sounds a little strict. Must be boring there.

Eh; we make up for it for doing a lot of the personal stuff usually reserved for marriage before we get married.

So marriage doesn't mean all that much, does it?

[Gasp.] Are you getting married, Ling-chin!?

No, not yet. Unless you're interested. The first mermaid to marry an Emperor of Xing... we'd certainly be remembered for all time.

[She giggles and blushes.]

Me? Marry a prince?

It would certainly be a step up in your social status. What do you say?
