Feel
Sometimes Seohyun wonders what's wrong with her. Why even though she has
everything she could've possibly wished for, she feels a hole inside of her, that hasn't
been filled yet. That's not yet satisfied.
Days are filled with tears of joy, tears of hardship, she gives everything. Yet she feels an
empty part in her heart as she slips under the covers to enjoy the little sleep she can get.
She wonders if she did something wrong, if she chose the wrong path after all.
What was she missing? She didn't know.
Sometimes Seohyun comes to the practicing room alone to play the piano. Yet it is then,
as she is playing, the hole seems to get bigger. She feels the most lost when she plays her
tunes, notes, musical scales and chords over and over again.
Finding out what this hole means is addicting to her. Curiosity was something in her blood, she finds it her biggest character flaw.
As she stares at the notes and plays a new song she hears the door being opened and the sound
of footsteps heading towards her. A hand touches her shoulder and Seohyun turns her head
only to be met with doe eyes and a big alligator grin. She smiles.
“Hello Yoona Unnie.”
Her Unnie's grin grew wider as she motioned Seohyun to scoot. She frowned yet obeyed her Unnie and stood up, curious to what she wanted to do. Yoona sat down and put her index finger on the lowest key. Then on the key next to it, and the key next to it. And while she did that she closed her eyes.
Seohyun was stunned as she watched Yoona press the keys one after another. A shock, a faint memory she had forgotten came back to her.
'Seohyun-ah, don't look at your fingers, look at the notes.'
'But seon-saeng-nim, I might press the wrong key.'
Faintly you hear the notes.
C, C#, D, D#, E, E♭
'Seohyun-ah, professional pianists don't close their eyes for the 'show' you know.'
You didn't understand what he wanted to say with that.
F, F#, G, G#, A, A#, B, B♭
'Seohyun-ah, did you know that your fingers remember what you do? They
can hold information. But they can't do their job well when you are watching.
We humans, we rely too much on our sight. Close your eyes Seohyun-ah, go ahead, do it.'
You closed you eyes.
'Did you know that if you close your eyes your other senses get more aware? We humans need something to scan our environment and use our eyes. But when you can't see you rely on your other senses. Can you notice it Seohyun-ah?'
You opened your eyes, you didn't like it when you couldn't see, you didn't want to rely on your other senses.
'I'm sorry seon-saeng-nim.'
And again, now an octave higher
C, C#, D, D#, E, E♭
He patted your head and smiled.
'It's okay Seohyun-ah, you're still small. But remember this for later Seohyun-ah,
When you're all grown-up and you feel afraid. It's okay to close your eyes.
And feel.'
Seohyun had always been insecure about everything but as she remembered and understood her seon-saeng-nim's wise words now she feels enlightened. She puts her hand on Yoona's shoulder causing her to open her eyes and face Seohyun.
Seohyun never closed her eyes unless it was to sleep, she never heard the music she was playing, she never smelt the fragrance of the flowers, she never tasted the food she was eating.
But she was willing to, so she closed her eyes, pressed her lips against Yoona
and she felt.
The end
