[OOC//PROFILES/MEME] Character Survey - Yugi
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is he heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
Yugi is tiny in a number of ways-a mere 5′2″ in height and very skinny. Initially it's just skinny-skinny, but later, as he starts learning Tae Kwon Do, it becomes the whip-cord kind of skinny.
2. How old is he?
At the point in DBFS I'm taking him from, 15.
3. Describe his posture. Does he carry himself well or does he slouch?
He slouches.
4. How is his health? Is he fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
Generally fit, after he begins learning Tae Kwon Do. Other than being unusually short, he has no conditions or disabilities.
5. How does he move? Is he clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
His movements have become much more fluid as of late, and while he used to be somewhat clumsy, he's more or less worked that out of his system. Martial arts will do that to you.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does he perceive himself in the mirror?
No comment-beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
7. Describe his complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Fair skinned, generally clear.
8. Describe his hair: color, texture, style.
Like Yami, Yugi's hair is very distinctive. It's a spiky, tri-coloured mess; the main body of his hair is a reddish black, the tips of which are bright red. His bangs are blond and wavy.
9. What color are his eyes?
Violet, which is rather rare, but does occur naturally.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
In anime, you don't really get a sense of the character's facial features because they're typically extremely simplified. Let's change that, shall we? I've always pictured Yugi thus: Yugi has the same basic facial structure as Yami (no surprise, since Yugi's a distant descendant of his). Yugi's facial features are much rounder and smoother than Yami's, essentially very childlike while still being masculine. He has round eyes, and he only very occasionally opts to wear Egyptian-style eye makeup (he's of the opinion it doesn't look very good on him, since his eyes are the wrong shape.) After the DBFS Installment Take Back the Night (the third in the Saga), he has a tattoo on his right arm which features the crown he wore as Pharaoh with simplified depictions of his eyes beneath it, a golden ankh, the words "Beware the wrath of the King of Games" in Egyptian hieroglyphs snaking around the design, his name in hieroglyphs enclosed in a cartouche beside the ankh, and a chain snaking around the bottom of the design. He also has a ring through his left eyebrow, a bolt through the tip of each ear, and a thick brass ring around the ridge of each ear.
11. What are his chief tension centers?
Legs, hips, feet, back.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does he have six of the same suit?
Very goth, minus the makeup. Casual, for the most part, and somewhat varied. Most often, however, you'll see him wearing black, tight-fitting leather trousers, a black sleeveless shirt, a black jacket slung over his shoulders like a cloak or cape, a black leather belt and bandoleer, a series of armbands, black combat boots, and a leather "choker" of sorts.
13. Do his clothes fit well? Does he seem comfortable in them?
Yugi's pretty comfortable in his clothes, though it's hard for him to find them in his size. Usually he'd have to have them tailored a bit, since he's very short and skinny for a guy.
14. Does he dress the same on the job as he does in his free time? If not, what are the differences?
At this point in canon, Yugi doesn't have a job.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
Boxers :)
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
Yugi has a slight discrepency in voice pitch; his speaking voice is a very light tenor, but his singing voice is a slightly higher pitch, more in the range of counter-tenor (halfway between alto and tenor). Yugi's voice is usually bubbling with enthusiasm. His singing voice is usually described as "more choir singer than rock singer" (which is how he compares it to Kaiba's singing voice-What? Kaiba's English voice actor is Eric Stuart. Eric Stuart is a musician and singer. :D))

2. How does he normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does he talk easily, or does he hesitate?
Yugi's usually fairly soft-spoken, except when he's excited or angry, in which case he gets louder. When excited his speech cadence also speeds up a little.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
American accent.
4. What language/s does he speak, and with how much fluency?
Fluent American English, and he's been learning Old Khemetic (ancient Egyptian) from Yami.
5. Does he switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
Not generally, no.
6. Is he a good impromptu speaker, or does he have to think about his words?
He usually has to think about them.
7. Is he eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
Mostly inarticulate
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is he book-smart or street-smart?
Yugi is very intelligent, but it's mostly the book-smart kind.
2. Does he think on his feet, or does he need time to deliberate?
Depends on the situation. When gaming, he's very good at thinking on his feet. Otherwise, he prefers to take time to deliberate.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is he more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
Intuitive and idealistic.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
He's still in high school.
5. What are his areas of expertise? What, if anything, is he interested in learning more about?
Gaming is his primary area of expertise. And I do mean all kinds of games: video/computer games, card games (obviously), board games... the works. Everything. He's also very fascinated by Khemetic/Ancient Egyptian culture and such, and intends to learn more about it and more about ancient cultures in general.
6. Is he an introvert or an extrovert?
Initially, very much an introvert. He's becoming more and more extroverted as he spends more time with Yami; their personalities are starting to bleed over into one another.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is he even-tempered or does he have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Cheerful, typically even-tempered, and laid-back.
8. How does he respond to new people or situations? Is he suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
A mix between timid and enthusiastic.
9. Is he more likely to act, or to react?
React.
10. Which is his default: fight or flight?
Flight at first, but, as he's learning self-defense, it's leaning more towards fight.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does he appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
Jokes, gallows humour, and gamer snark make up his primary sense of humour :)
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does he deal with them?
No.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined him as a person?
AU HISTORY WARNING. Yugi was raised by abusive parents, and one of those defining moments was when he was six and decided to report them to the police. Currently they have a life sentence in prison (in the future, child abuse laws are über-strict ;) )), though they do have the possibility of being paroled. Meeting Yami was another big turning point in his life, as it marks the beginning of his transition from a shy, introverted wallflower into a much more outgoing and assertive teenager.
14. What does he fear?
He will always fear losing the people he cares for, especially his grandfather and Yami. He also fears that his parents will be paroled from prison and come after him again.
15. What are his hopes or aspirations?
Yugi hopes to become an archaeologist, like his grandfather was before he retired. He also hopes to make a difference in the supernatural world as well; a year from his current canon point, he'll become one of the Nine Saviours, and it's a task he'll readily fall into when it comes.
16. What is something he doesn't want anyone to find out about him?
Uhm. Mostly I think the fact that he's bisexual, especially given that his girlfriend is über-conservative.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with his parents.
Exact opposite of Yami's. Yugi despises his parents. They were abusive; his father physically, and his mother psychologically. They both had Shadow Powers gained through a bargain with a demon or devil. His father used his telekinetic abilities to physically harm Yugi, thinking the supernatural source would be enough to keep Yugi from telling anyone about it. (He was wrong.) His mother would invade his dreams at times and torture him through them. He can't fathom their motivations for doing this, other than corruption from the demon. (The fact that his father worked at Wolfram & Hart from Angel might've had something to do with it as well.) He eventually told the police a slightly fictionalized version (he left out the supernatural bits), and his parents were arrested. Afterwards, Yugi lived with Solomon, his grandfather. His parents are currently serving a life sentence in an Oregon state prison, but they could still be paroled.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
No biological siblings. (Thank God. I don't think Ennosuke and Chiaki-Yugi's parents-would've been any kinder to them than they were to Yugi.)
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom he is close? Are there ones he can't stand?
He is especially close to his paternal grandfather, Solomon Mutou. Yami is a distant ancestor of his on his father's side, and Yugi is also close to him.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom he considers part of his family? What are his relationships with them?
Yugi considers basically all of his friends to be part of his family. Especially Yami, who is as much a surrogate father to him as his grandfather is.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
Yugi doesn't play favourites among his friends. They're all his best friends.
6. Does he have other close friends?
See above.
7. Does he make friends easily, or does he have trouble getting along with people?
Yugi tries to get along with everyone. He hates conflict. Or I should say, he hates initiating conflict. So I'd say he'd make friends easily if it weren't for his status in the social ladder of his high school.
8. Which does he consider more important: family or friends?
He considers them both equally important.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has he been married more than once?
Single, but dating Miss Jenifer Rieli (an original character, Millennium Item holder, and anchor to the spirit Setep-sy, who was Yami's wife.)
10. Is he currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
Not at the moment... That'll change, though, since I'm a Puzzleshipper... mwhahahahahahahahaha~
11. Who was his first crush? Who is his latest?
Jenifer is his latest, but I think it's hard to say who his first might've been. Maybe Téa, but he never acted on those feelings. (Mun is NOT a Yugi/Téa shipper.)
12. What does he look for in a romantic partner?
Much the same qualities as Yami does, I think. Personality is much more important to him than physical appearance, and he looks mostly for people with kind hearts and a good sense of humour and morals, but also those who are fairly open-minded. (Jenifer mostly fits all but the last category.)
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does he relate to them? If no, does he want any?
Nope. I think Yugi would want them eventually, but he's not going to have any in the future.
14. Does he have any rivals or enemies?
Kaiba has proclaimed himself both Yugi and Yami's rival, even if initially he did have trouble figuring out that Yugi and Yami were two different people. Yugi would rather the rivalry not continue; he'd much rather be on at least neutral terms with Kaiba, if not friends.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does he fall on the Kinsey scale?
Yugi is bisexual and falls squarely on 3 on the Kinsey scale.
16. How does he feel about sex? How important is it to him?
...Erm. At this point Yugi's still a virgin. I think he'd love to have sex, but he's more than willing to respect Jenifer's wishes on the matter. (Which are that they should wait until when/if they decide to get married.)
17. What are his turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
Yugi hasn't figured those out yet. Still a virgin, remember? ;)
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (zodiac of choice) sign? How well does he fit type?
Yugi's birthday in DBFS is 19 February 2984, which makes him an Aquarius and a Dragon. Birthstone is Amethyst. Dragons are described as Magnanimous, stately, vigorous, strong, self-assured, proud, noble, direct, dignified, eccentric, intellectual, fiery, passionate, decisive, pioneering, artistic, generous, loyal. Can be tactless, arrogant, imperious, tyrannical, demanding, intolerant, dogmatic, violent, impetuous, brash. Yugi fits the qualities described in the first list. Yugi also fits his classical Zodiac sign of Aquarius fairly well, in that he's (eventually) pretty good at communicating with people, given enough time to choose his words carefully. He is also curious and knowledge-hungry, and prefers verbal expression of his anger rather than physical expression. He's also very easy to get to know and enjoys entertainment that is intellectually stimulating. (All are properties of Air signs, of which Aquarius is one.)
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in his life?
Yugi is agnostic in that he doesn't particularly care whether or not there is a God.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
He does, and it's quite similar to Yami's ethical code. He believes in personal liberty and freedom, and that friends and family are the most important things anyone can have in their lives, and thus that they should be protected at all costs. He would only break his code if the life of a loved one was on the line.
4. How does he regard beliefs that differ from his? Is he tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Yugi's both tolerant and curious, given his basic nature. He likes to know stuff and tries to understand everyone.
5. What prejudices does he hold? Are they irrational or does he have a good reason for them?
Yugi holds very few prejudices. Like Yami, what few he does hold are usually very rationally held.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is he rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Comfortable, in that he relies on his grandfather for financial support. Solomon runs a game shop.
2. What is his social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected him?
In his High School's social ladder, he sits squarely on the Geek rung. (Which is one of the Unpopular rungs.) Economically he's middle-class.
3. Where does he live? House, apartment, trailer? Is his home his castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does he share it with others?
Yugi lives with his grandfather in a house attached to his grandfather's game shop.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does he spend his money on?
Games and gaming equipment ;)
5. What does he do for a living? Is he good at it? Does he enjoy it, or would he rather be doing something else?
Yugi currently does not have a paid job, though he occasionally helps out at his grandfather's store.
6. What are his interests or hobbies? How does he spend his free time?
Gaming is his primary hobby. He is also in his high school's choir. When he still went to church (last time was when he was, oh, ten or so) he also sang in his church choir.
7. What are his eating habits? Does he skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
Yugi's not of drinking age. :) Other than that, he usually eats pretty well. He very much enjoys coffee, though ;)

Which of the following do you associate with the character, or which is his favorite:
