The first time they fought was over something stupid and silly and neither of them could tell you how it happened in the end. Sho's temper was short with stress and school and singing and absolutely no sleep. Nino was just being Nino. It wasn't his fault Sho couldn't take a joke, a little jab about Jun's mancrush, a poke about his gay love for Ohno. Sho blew up at him. Nino snapped back. They didn't talk for three days. The other members finally had enough of the silence and the fighting and locked the two in a closet. Nino perched on an old chair. Sho leaned against the door. They stared each other down for two solid minutes. Nino finally sighed and stood. Sho straightened his spine, preparing for the verbal assault. Nino walked over, put his hands on Sho's hips, and nestled his forehead against Sho's shoulder. Whispered apologies. Arms encircling waists. Lips brushing ever so lightly, afraid too much too fast would break the spell. Fingers entwined before emerging from the closet to three smiling faces. Meddling jerks.

The first time they had sex, it was messy and sticky and awkward as hell and perfect in every single way. They lay curled around each other for hours afterward, just breathing in the other's essence, Nino's thin arms wrapped possessively around Sho's neck, face buried in his shoulder. Sho nosed Nino's hair, reveling in the tickle against his nose. He couldn't imagine a better person to lose it to. Nino's beautiful almond eyes met his and Sho knew he felt the same. He smiled and pulled Nino closer, heart close to bursting.

The first time Sho said "I love you" was definitely maybe probably accidental. It was Nino's 20th birthday and the five of them had crowded into a small karaoke booth. Jun pouted for the first hour or so, watching the rest of them steadily drink more and more, cheeks reddening and voices steadily growing louder. Sho pulled him close for a duet and Jun's icy exterior cracked. Ohno and Aiba collapsed on each other in a heap, sobbing "I love Arashi" over and over (as was typical). Eventually Jun led the drunken Arashi-lovers out, promising to get them home safely, leaving a very drunk Sho and a slightly less drunk Nino alone at last. The door swung closed behind Jun. Sho was on Nino before it closed, mouth exploring everywhere, touching every bit of exposed skin. Nino sighed. Sho grinned. He pulled back to survey Nino's face - flushed with alcohol and arousal. "I love you," Sho blurted. Nino's eyes widened. Sho threw up on his shoes. The next day, he bought Nino two new pairs. And half a dozen DS games. They both pretended the confession (and barfing) never happened.

The first time Nino said "I love you" was definitely on purpose. He'd always been one to choose his words carefully, watching and waiting and planning. A few weeks had passed since Sho's rather embarrassing (and messy) confession - the one that sent Nino's mind spinning in a hundred different directions. Nino's way with words sometimes felt limited to snark and wit and cutting remarks. He was never quite comfortable with verbalizing his affection, which was probably why he was so tactile with everyone, but he woke up that morning knowing it was the right time. Nino came home that night to his tiny, cluttered apartment to find a Sho lying on the couch, arm thrown over his eyes, makeup still on from his photoshoot earlier, snoring lightly. Nino smiled and sat on the floor, just watching, waiting for his chance to say it. Sho stirred. Nino leaned in to press his lips lightly against Sho's wrist, murmuring soft words of adoration. Sho pulled his arm back and smiled sleepily at Nino. Nino's heart swelled. "I love you," he said, deliberately and with all the meaning he could muster. Sho's smile widened. He pulled Nino close, kissed him softly, and returned the sentiment - "I love you, too." Neither of them threw up.
