Are you guys tired of hearing about Pokémon GO yet? Sorry, not sorry.
The game was finally released in Japan last Friday, and it's been fun to see how it's changed the world around me.
Christian and I went to the Adachi fireworks (see last post) the Saturday after the game was released. Our phones didn't have Internet at the event space (probably because of the crowd), but once we were strolling around the town after the event, we noticed we weren't the only ones out catching Pokémon. People quickly gathered around gyms and Pokéstops with lures. Everyone sort of nodding to each other, like we were all in on a big not-so-secret secret. It was great!
The next day we went to Ueno park. I've been going to Ueno park pretty much every weekend since I moved to Adachi. But this Sunday felt very different. There were definitely more people just... hanging around. Glaring at phones. Smiling and cheering and slowly, slowly, slowly making their way around the park.
In-game look of the park. Lures! Lures as far as the eye can see!
These guys in the boat were both playing Pokémon GO while paddling around the lake!!! I hope they caught some rare water type Pokémon, hahahahahha.
I haven't really involved myself with the gym fights all that much, but there's a really cool gym location near my nearest train station that I held for a little while
There's a pokéstop at the end of my street. The GPS is inaccurate, so I'm able to reach it from my house. People keep placing lures there, I'm not complaining.
I went to Disneyland on Monday, I was expecting them to have banned the game and removed any Pokéstops, but... nope! There are even gyms!
The top left is Tom Sawyer Island.
Cinderella Castle held by team Instinct! Yessss!
Slowpoke agrees, it sucks they are going to tear down StarJets to make room for new Fantasyland.
I'm now a week into the game. I wish I could play it more than I have been. But it's a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be. I also didn't anticipate having to have the game open at all times for it to register kilometres walked... I could have hatched a billion more eggs if I bothered to walk with my phone in my hand, but I'm not quite there yet. All the eggs I've hatched have resulted in super weak common ones anyway.
The most amusing change, however, is of course how seemingly everyone around you are suddenly talking about Pokémon. It's now a common thing to hear people exclaim "KOIKING!" (Magicarp) or "EEVEE!!!" I love it! I sat down at a café today, and the group of teens at the next table ordered EVERY SINGLE THING ON THE SWEETS MENU and then sat there playing Pokémon GO. Exclaiming loudly every time a rare one showed up, and getting super fired up about being able to capture them. I LOVE THIS NEW WORLD.
I overheard one of them going "IT HAS OVER 800 CP!!!!", so I jumped into the game and caught thissssss. Yasssss.
Has Pokémon GO changed your neighbourhood?
