After my long absence, I come to you with more tales of tutoring.

I have been lucky enough not to get an ESL student so far in my tutoring career (yes, all six weeks of it). I have also been told that, if the occasion arrises and it is too hard to make a connection, I can refer the tutee to one of the specifically-ESL tutors.

But, I am still terrified, because my boss has started doing evaluations and she's planning to observe the newbies first. And I just know, naturally, that the session she decides to observe is going to the worst possible one ever.

Shudder.
