Character
Name - Nara Tsuki
Fandom - Original Character
Species - Todesblume (Shifting species, known also as a wood dragon.)
Age - Twenty Four.
Gender - Male. Male for sure.
Appearance - Nara stands at a simple five foot ten, with short brown hair (dyed brown to mask its natural coloration which is white) that is kept short and neat, falling to just below his chin. He weighs roughly one-hundred and eighteen pounds, barely within the healthy range for someone of his height. He often smells faintly of dye retaining shampoo, and scentless soap; he dislikes strong odors. When he does wear cologne, it is either Tom Ford Grey Vetiver or Kenneth Cole Vintage Black dabbed underneath his shirt collar.
His eyes are dark grey and his face has a clear complexion, on oriental skin. Nara is aware that he is attractive, possibly to both genders. Thus he likes to take care of his appearance in wearing professionally cleaned clothes, shaving regularly, and even having his nails buffed. He does not wear makeup or have facials.
His skin is, however, a far cry from perfection. He does have his fair share of unique markings-although none of which are made up of tattoos or piercings. His skin is marred with fine, white lines along his hands, barely able to be seen without the assistance of strong lights, due to the lightness of his skin. The other scars on his body are another story. Upon first glance, it would seem claws or a very large, uneven blade once attempted to slash his wrists open horizontally. Whether Nara did it himself or another did is up for debate. His back, especially in the tailbone area, attains evidence of being heavily whipped over a long period of time. There are also puncture scars, and evidence of heavy scar tissue on the inside of his thighs, and around his groin area. These areas are covered up by well-fitted pants, and long shirts. He rarely dresses down at the best of times, or takes off his shirt in public. Usually, he will wear suits, and casual business attire.
When Nara entered the Carnival, his work day had just finished. Because of the season he had dressed down from his usual grey pinstripe attire. He also wore more color than usual. His button down shirt was a strip pattern of lilac and indigo. The shirt being a blend of bamboo and cotton made it soft and silky to touch. Over top of his shirt he wore a chocolate brown sports jacket which matched his leather shoes and pants. The sports jacket was made from cashmere and the pants were a wool/lyra mix. He had a tie on at entering but it was lost likely thrown off in haste or forgotten during a game. His clothes became rumpled, stained and perhaps ripped due to the stress. His mark of bondage was writ as a stripe on the right side of his face. It started from the lateral nasal cartilage and sprawled across his cheekbone. The mark remains in the same place whether he is human or dragon.
Because of Nara’s heritage he has the ability to take on the form of a dragon. His dragon form is black in color, and he appears to be more like a Western dragon. However he possesses dew claws as well as retractable claws. Nara also has the wings, like those of a bat, with six spines and a wing span twice the length of his body. From the tip of his nose to the end of his tail, Nara measures at forty feet. He also has ridged frills around his serpent-like head; these spines are bony and armored to protect his ear holes and his neck. The skin located in the neck and chest area is twice as thick as the rest of the body in order to protect the major arteries and veins in fights. To further protect these areas he is covered with thickly plated interlocking scales. From the point of his lower neck, to the end of his tail Nara has a series of black, boney ridges. These ridges are meant for defense and seem similar to obsidian in its sharp edges, darkness and sheen. Thankfully the wings at rest are positioned alongside the spine and not over top; otherwise the delicate skin would be punctured on a consistent basis. The wings themselves connect at a point between the lower chest and thighs. This means that there is a greater surface area for the wings and Nara is able to fly more smoothly. He also has more powerfully built forequarters which are where most of his flight muscles are located. His tail is also flexible in order to be used like a rudder and is held above the ground when he walks so debris won’t be caught on the scales.
Another physical trait to point out is his eyes. It must be noted they do not change in color or pupil when his body changes. They remain for the most part human in depth perception night vision and other details. He does not have a third eyelid as one would find in most reptiles. His only eyelids are external with a delicate membranous skin.
His teeth are a different story. Though he still retains molars in order to grind flora, his canine and incisor teeth have sharpened considerably. His mouth, tongue, and his throat are slimier then his human counterpart, due in part to being coated in thick mucus coating to protect against the acids in his saliva. It is also impossible to tell his gender in this form as the organs are internal not external like most reptilian creatures. For visual reference see the link with the awesome quote.
Perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses. Personality - If you called him proud, he wouldn’t deny it. Aloof sarcastic and cynical are words that apply very well to this young man. Does he act as if he doesn’t like anyone? Yes, he can. Nara has difficulty trusting others. He’ll do his best to keep people away, with cutting remarks, sarcasm and sheer bluntness. Unless he has a use for a person, then he can be very nice indeed. Just like any man, he can be rude and he can be polite. It just depends on what the situation calls for in his mind. If he has a use for the person, he will attempt to be polite and hold back on the sarcasm-though he’ll still be cool and even emotionally cut off. It’s just business. It’s unlikely that he would toss anyone aside after he’s gotten what he wanted though. That would be lacking of forethought. However, he would not hesitate to tell them his impressions of their actions thereafter.
Another first impression one might make is that of a calm amusement. He likes to remain calm and collected in any given situation. He often makes a game of analyzing a person during the first meeting, testing their tempers by carefully chosen often passive aggressive taunts. It’s yet another way he keeps others away and passes the time. Of course, this does make him lonely.
Nara takes his comforts where he can. Often, it will be in the higher intellectual tastes; he loves going to the opera, viewing museums and art galleries and reading literature. Though he is aware that these past times were fads centuries ago, he does not understand current pop culture .Intellectually, he may understand the marketing appeal and how the latest movie is used to appeal to teenagers, or how certain clothing materials were considered cheaper and thus easier to mass produce. He doesn’t understand the mass appeal however. Nara is not the kind of person who likes to go along with crowds at the best of times, but he will attempt to research if it appeals to someone he wants to use for his own ends-or if it appeals to someone he truly cares about.
The people on list of those he cares for is few; at the moment, only his younger siblings are on the list. Especially his youngest sibling and sister So Lin. While he may act like a hovering parent and annoy the frick out of them, he only wants the best for his siblings. He is willing to do whatever it takes for their lives to be dull and happy. To say that he would kill and die for them would not even be a stretch. He would prefer that they had no idea how far he would go for them. He would say it would be out of embarrassment but the truth is it’s out of fear. Fear that they would be frightened and reject him. That they would call him a monster. He can tolerate the words from fools, but not from his siblings.
It does not help either that he has developed a Madonna complex, which centralizes around his sister, not his mother. It is not a condition he is wholly aware of. He may never come to the realization as it is a difficult condition to understand. It is not what the media may say of this little known complex. Basic of the basics of this condition is this: in his mind love does not equal sex nor does sex equal love. He can have sex with those he considers ‘whores’ but never love them. Though he has his Madonna-his sister-he has not found himself a life partner. The man or the woman would have to be pure in mind and body, and not sexually aggressive. Considering the lack, he’s had difficulties, and this makes him feel more empty, and unfilled. It can also be the biggest reason why he’s so unhappy.
He also has a surprisingly high tolerance towards children. Possibly due to the cruel treatment from his father as a child, he often displays a gentler side, and does not hesitate to defend them if he thinks they are in danger. He won’t let them run wild though. He’ll assist them, try to help them if they have a problem but truly he wants them to grow up as a healthy human being. Nara may have done better in life if his work was all about children and assisting them. However, life didn’t turn out that way. So he’s stuck being a callous bastard.
This doesn’t mean Nara doesn’t have a temper. He does. And it can be very explosive. Depending on the situation, Nara can be snappish, to outright violent. When he threatens, that is the only warning the person gets to back off. After what he considers a reasonable amount of time he will attempt to do what he says, even if it is poking out someone’s eyes. He doesn’t feel remorse for threatening or doing physical harm to a person that deserves it. Especially if they threaten those he loves. He has no problem in killing, and usually does not have any guilt afterwards. It could be possibly from his belief that adults are scum. Or it could be from overexposure-he’s used to seeing and taking part of violent acts from a a very young age.
Nara does not cry. He tries not to think of all of his regrets or feel guilt or depression. Of course he’s only human. When the stress becomes too much the most likely thing he will do is find a quiet place bury his face in his hands and cry. Then he’ll think of what he can do in order to make his world make sense again. It may be waiting. It may be taking out those that are the cause of disorder. Or in the rare case, he will have to admit to himself that there is nothing that he can do, despite all of training, intellect, and powers.
Nara is not the type to talk with gestures and is often more or less self contained. His movements are slow and graceful. He was well brought up, and it shows in the way he holds himself, how he walks and often how he speaks. When in thought, he’ll often be seen smoking a cigarette still as a statue. That is until he gets angry. Then he tends to hiss; his motions are quick and harsh like that of a reptile. That is when more than ever he is a dragon underneath human skin.
History - He was born into a well off family in the modern age, the first born son of two dragons, Ceneric and Miyuri. For the first few years of his childhood, he was a normal little boy taken care of by maids for the most part. His mother being only seventeen and suffering from postpartum depression had a difficult time becoming maternal. She did come to love Nara in slow steps, after difficult transitions and years of therapy. That would make little difference for a young boy. The foundation for certain problems were already laid in place. The situation would become worse when Nara turned seven. Ceneric, with his stronger personality older than his wife by far and his own ambitions in mind, decided it was high time to put his son to good use. Miyuri did not know the full truth believing that Ceneric merely wanted to teach Nara the business and how to change from human to dragon, protested saying he was too young. But with her pregnancy at the time and Ceneric’s emotional abuse on the younger woman, she was forced to drop the issue, and let him do what he wished. At first, it was merely learning for Nara. A lot of it happened to be puzzles and solving locked door mysteries-activities Nara excelled in. Seeing how clever his son was, Ceneric slowly increased the lessons and started other, less savory activities. First it was intense martial arts. After coming to a reasonable level in his training, Nara then learnt how to take on the different part of himself, his dragon shape. Then it became more. A year after the lessons began the relationship between father and son became abusive in different aspects- sexual molestation for the most part. Nara never told his mother. Ceneric told him over and over that no one would believe a child, and with the twins now born, he was, ultimately, replaceable. The young boy, terrified, would have problems related to this-hiding in closets, bed wetting, nightmares and sickness. The thought of just turning into his dragon half and biting his father never occurred to him. His mother tried to help with what she could, which was little. Usually, it came in the form of letting him sleep over at friend’s houses when invited. It did not help as much as it could have. Miyuri was as much a victim to Ceneric’s abuse as he was.
With no one to turn to, he became colder. It was harder for him to form emotional attachments as much as he tried. He didn’t believe anyone was worth depending on. He did, however, feel tenderness for his younger siblings, especially his little sister. They were innocent and so far spared Ceneric’s touch, were able to grow into normal children. It was odd, considering what should have been resentment. He did envy their innocence and the attention they got from their mother. He wanted to be like them. But he also wanted them to stay as happy and carefree as long as they could. It was so much easier to pretend things were all right, when the three siblings played together (even when it came down to giving dragon rides).
His resolve was tested when the twins reached seven. Nara noticed that his aging father was eyeing the twins, especially his sister, the youngest of the siblings. He was unsure of what he should do, at first. Ceneric was slowly declining due to heart problems; time could ultimately been his father’s killer. Certainly his mother seemed to be hoping for that to occur. However, Nara did not like the signs of Ceneric’s sudden attentive interest of the seven year old. He seemed…to be touching too much. Staring far too often. When Ceneric announced that he was planning to put the twins under training, Nara had to act. With the knowledge he had gained from training, he tampered with his father’s medication and food, adding mistletoe. It did not occur right away-but his father’s health worsened enough to postpone the lessons, and Ceneric eventually had a serious heart attack. The death was ruled as an accident, and the fourteen year old Nara was freed from his father’s influence.
This did not mean a happy ever after. Not by a long shot. Though Nara devoted himself for a normal life at last, it didn’t seem to stick. He devoted himself to his studies, but it did not work out very well. He kept getting trouble in school-not for needless rebellion. It did not occur very often, but he had violent outbursts from time to time, from the oddest things. Smelling certain scents-like that of his father’s old colongue, for insistence-would be a violent trigger. He did not open up easily to others, gaining the repute for being haunty and arrogant. His teachers were baffled, and his mother attempted to reach out. But repeatedly, it was ignored. The only times that he was able to make himself apologize for his actions was after interacting with his sister. She was growing up to be a sensible child and could tame his temper easily. He couldn’t stay angry when he was around her. In order to keep a handle on his temper, he tried to go flying, exercise and kept himself busy. But whenever it was too much, he’d go back to his little sister, and play with her. He’d try to play with his brother as well, but more often, So Lin would get all the attention. And like any child, she lapped it up. They became close, for all they bickered like siblings do. Nara could not help but love her unconditionally for all he resented his parents. He even resented his little brother Xao Lin at times, for wanting to play with So Lin by himself, and finally taking lessons together in order to change their shape.
High school and university were a trial socially. Academically, he did well; as his father had discovered, Nara was a bright young man, and did well in the sciences. Socially, there were problems. Sometimes there were the outbursts, from various triggers. Those only eased with time. He slowly tried to make friends, though it was an awkward mix of attempts and learning what kind of people he wanted to be with. It was easier to be friends with others when interacting with them as a dragon. Especially if they were of the same species and taking on a dragon shape. Usually all that was desired was a hunting or a nap partner. No need to talk or to demand anything but fair share of the sheep.
What became very awkward was dating. Once he woke up sexually, he tried to find someone he would want to marry. Of course, being a teenager, that didn’t work so well. He was able to take care of his physical needs with various class mates, but emotionally…not so much. And that was what he wanted. It was if he was drinking wine and wanting only water. He felt confused, and angry with others and himself. As his younger siblings grew older, he grew resentful of those that wanted their attention. Bitter even. When he finished his degree in business and started working, he started smoking and having more casual sex, even hiring prostitutes to take care of his physical needs. He even tried seeking a partner as a dragon but could not function whatsoever. Something was missing in his life, and he didn’t know what it was. Life continued even if he didn’t know how to fill the emotional void growing inside him.
The only people he that eased the emptiness for awhile were his younger siblings-which he had thought had run to a dangerous looking carnival….
Skills/Abilities/Powers -
Hand to hand combat (Muay thai)-He is at an intermediate level, in a martial art that focuses on disabling opponents by rendering their ligaments and tendons useless.
Wood jumping-the ability to teleport himself and whoever he has skin contact with to another location.
Shifting-The ability to become his dragon self (which has teeth, claws, flying, the normal dragon goods) or merely allow to let a bit of it show. For example, he could do a partial shift that allows the use of his talons for weapons, or wings for flight.
Enhancement-Nara possesses better than average sense of smell, strength and speed in comparison to the average person at the peak of health for his muscle mass and endurance.
Power Restrictions -
- Wood jumping-the teleportation ability-will not work. At all. He'll try, and strain for it, but all he'll give himself is a headache. Carnie must have taken it upon his arrival.
-He cannot fly out of the Carnival. Oh, he may be able to get airborne but when he gets too far away he will be forced back into human form.Yes, that means that he will fall from quite the height. But there's no good in killing him outright is there? Maybe a little punishment or embarrassment. Being somehow nude but for his mark and cuff may just do the trick.
-Partial shifts are painful for long amounts of time, and more so for fights. He can ignore it, but the results can be messy.
-Like with most hand to hand combat, he has to practice at least a couple hours every day in order to keep his skills up to par.
-He’s only a little stronger than average due to his diet issues. It can cause him to drop from exhaustion.
-He has an eating disorder. He tends not to eat, especially when stressed.
-If he goes without eating for a day, he will have difficulty changing forms. If he doesn't eat for three days he will not be able to change forms at all.
Job - Nara the amazing dragon man. He’ll lie in a cage, roar and change forms.
Samples
First Person Sample (Communicator, Bulletin, or Mirror) -
[There’s silence for a moment. Then a huff, as he stares into the mirror. His hair is mussed, his lip is bleeding, and his teeth are bared in a snarl. It looks as if he was in the wrong end of a fight, and he wants revenge.]
This isn’t some sort of game. This-who said I wanted to play? I don’t play games. I hate games. It’s more than not fair! You godsbedamned-
What sort of illusion did you pull? My sister-my brother-they’re not here. Unless…you’re hiding them from me? If you are, you stupid man, I’ll eat your liver, spit on your eyes, and pull out your tongue.
Third Person Sample (Log) -
It was raining again. It was not a heavy, pouring, like winter. But light. A summer kiss. The only kind of kiss he wanted to feel on his skin. So he did without the umbrella for once, walking home in the rain. He didn’t want the car, or feeling of company. He liked the feeling of being alone for once without a need to do anything for anyone. He didn’t even have to think if he wanted to. Hands in his coat pockets he walked along the sidewalk not thinking of anything at all.
Then motion, in the corner of his eye. He looked-thinking it would merely be a cat or a bag in the wind. It wasn’t. It was his sister’s skirt as she walked away as if in a daze. Funny. He hadn’t noticed her walk pass him.
“So Lin?” He walked after her. Tried to catch her sleeve, her shoulder but she seemed just out of reach. He raised his voice and she didn’t seem to hear him. Something was wrong; she was seventeen but she was raised politely. He spoilt her almost like a parent or an uncle. She wouldn’t ever do this to him-had he done wrong? He racked his brain but nothing came to mind. He was worried not to mention angry. There was no reason to treat him this way.
“So Lin! Talk to me!” He moved faster seeing her cut across the road. Cars honked; he didn’t notice. He was wrapped up in trying to catch her to demand a reason for her not speaking. He had to stop for a moment just to catch his breath feeling it burn. At those few moments, he could do no more than watch her walk over calmly to a rusted gate. Was there something written overtop? He didn’t notice. Nara did notice Xao Lin, her twin and his younger brother, walked up from behind the gate to greet her. Then they both looked back. Nara had to swallow hard.
Something…something was wrong with their eyes. As if they were drugged or some fae creature had slipped into their skin. The pair of them, one small, one tall, stared at him blankly for a few moments, before walking inside. Without realizing it, he screamed, and lurched forward. He had to make it! He had to get them before the gates closed. For some reason, in his gut, he knew he didn’t want to be there when the way out was closed off. He needed to get them out…
Any Other Details We Should Know- Just that Nara is a cigarette smoking anorexic. Don’t be surprised that in a couple of weeks that he faints in the middle of a show.
-Also, like it was said in the appearance, his natural hair color is white. Without hair dye, it's going to slowly change back to its natural color.
Mark of Bondage: Mark of bondage is write as a stripe on the right side of his face. It starts from the lateral nasal cartilage (above the nostril) and sprawls across his cheekbone. The mark remains in the same area, no matter what form he takes.
