The queen has woken up. All hail the queen. Of course with the king gone and her utterly confused, things are going lovely accordingly to plan. And right on cue, the wanker in England gets the amulet. That, wasn’t the plan, even though it does give me great opportunity. Spike was supposed to return here. I mean, the amulet was supposed to return here with Spike inside. So we could work on him and…get him to work for us, so to speak.

I wonder if Angel ever knew what the amulet’s purpose was? He can’t be that dense, no matter how much he’d like to pretended otherwise.

Walking into my office, I made myself comfortable in the boss chair - which this time really was I - and picked up the phone. Time to put a certain watcher out of his misery and get that amulet back. I’m sure Spike is having a ball pestering Giles over there, and has noble a cause as pestering Giles is? There’s work to be done.

One ring, two, three, for someone who’s in such a hurry…he doesn’t seem to be.

“Giles!” The familiar rough voice barked over the phone.

Twiddling a pen between my fingers, I pursed my lips at the tone and rolled my eyes. “Yes, I know. That’s the number I dialed. Wyndam-Pryce here, you rang?”

There was silence for a brief moment on the other end before he talked. “Pryce! What in the bloody blazes took you so long! I called hours ago. What is the meaning of this amulet send here! Or more to the point, it’s content!”

Someone was pissed. “What are on about, Mister Giles? I don’t know of any amulet.”

“Don’t play games with me, Pryce. It was send here by Wolfram and Hart.”

“Now why would the firm be sending things to you?”

“Exactly my question. So why did you?”

“I am not the firm, Mister Giles. I’m merely taking over until Angel returns. And I don’t know of any package. What was inside?”

Silence again and I could almost hear the radars ticking away over in England. Of course, I did innocence very well. I *had* been innocent for such a long time, and so very naïve. Those days were over though. Long gone.

“Spike,” he finally admitted.

“There were Spike’s in the amulet?” I asked dumbly.

“No,” Giles growled, “Spike! As in the vampire Spike.”

This time I fell silent, keeping perfectly in my role. I grinned up at the ceiling, taking my time to come up with a response. “But…” I started softly, hesitantly, “I thought he burned up during the whole fight with the First?”

“He did,” Giles snarked. Really, is the man capable of any other tone of voice? “And now he’s back. In the bloody amulet you people gave us and then send here! What do you intent to do about it!”

And now we were getting to the core of the matter. The man was grinding his teeth so much I wouldn’t be surprised if they were stumps by now. “You mean the amulet Angel….?”

“That’s the one. Brings us to, what do you intent to do about it. Don’t play games with me, Pryce. I’ve not the time for it.”

No, of course he hadn’t. To busy doing important things. Wanker. “Very well,” I murmured, putting my feet on the oak desk and stretching out. “I’ll have our magicians create a portal to bring it, and the contents back here. We’ll see what this is all about. This could however be dangerous for Spike, you realize.”

Silence again. “I don’t want him here,” Giles said quickly.

“He’s a hero though, isn’t he? Didn’t have save the world?”

“I don’t *want* him here,” Giles repeated. “Do it. Oh and Pryce? Don’t play games with me again, I’m not in the mood. Ever.”

“Are you threatening me?”

“No, I’m warning.”

The laughter rising from inside me when he hung up the phone, bounced from the office wall. Oh my goodness. Was I ever that easy to wind up? The man is to much fun, must play a trick on him again soon. But for now, I had a lost ‘champion’ to return to where he was supposed to end up. Lifting my feet from the desk, I tossed the pen on it and put on my mask.

Weary, tired face, slump in my gate as I walked toward the lift. A shy smile for those I past in greeting until I was inside. Once there, I straighten up and pressed the button for the White room. Time to work some magic and move onto phase two.
