I never planed for this; I never expected anything in my life to ever…
My life - the one I have with Lindsey - is perfect in every way.
Or at least it will be when I tell him we’re going away for a week. I have time off from school, he doesn’t have anything major going on with his work so I am taking advantage of it - and the fact that I can still wear a one piece before my stomach shows - and we’re going on a vacation. Come to think of it, I don’t think either of us have been away really together. Sure, we’ve gone upstate for a day or so, but that’s different.
Smiling, I glance over at my bag on the seat next to me, knowing that inside are two tickets and a printed out hotel reservation for two. It was going to be the two of us this week, maybe we’d even get a chance to talk about the baby and what we wanted in the future. I had Lindsey and a healthy baby on the way, I really couldn’t ask for much more.
The desire to want my mother back and here was a wish that I knew was too much to ask. So I ask for her memory and strength to guide me and my family.
I shifted the truck into second gear as I turned down the road heading up to the house, my mind going through all of the things that needed to be done before the flight left in the morning. The less time we had until we left the easier it would be for me to keep our destination to myself. I’m already dying to tell Lindsey where we’re going; I can’t wait to see the look on his face.
As I pull up to the house I notice he’s not working outside like he usually is this time of day. Pressing my lips together I struggle with the shift for a moment to get the truck into park.
With a small yawn, I head into the house, closing the door behind me as I step in. I slip off my shoes by the door, padding barefoot through the place. “Lindsey?” There was no answer, but I knew he was cooking by the smells in the house. A smile plays on my lips. “A girl would think you’re trying to hide something or spoil her.” I make my way into the kitchen and look over his shoulder. “Anything good?” Without a word he turns and I find myself in his arms; never a place I don’t want to be.
“Why can’t you have something easy to drive, Lindsey?” I shake my head at him, wrapping my arms around his waist and finding myself melting into his arms. “What’s so wrong with an Impala or something?” I don’t even have to have my eyes open to know the look he’s giving me. “Teasing,” I whisper, leaning up to kiss his lips. “Now, drop everything and come upstairs with me. We need to find the suitcases and pack up some things.” Playfully I poke his ribs, smiling. “No, I’m not telling you where.”
