Good grades are nice, yes, but c'mon. I can sleep through half my classes and get As. Half, because I'm in Chemistry and French, and if I sleep in those I'll die. PreCalc I actually have slept in, literally, but I imagine actual Calculus will be harder. I slept in Algebra II last year, and bringing that grade up was hell -- and that class is supposedly easier!
What I hate more than scores-geniuses are IQ-geniuses, though. "Ohmigod, little Johnny scored sooo~ high on his IQ tests when he was three! He's a GENIUS!" Um, no. IQ tests are basically logic quizzes. I know two very very intelligent people, and both of them flunk every IQ test that they take, because they simply do not have what IQ tests are looking for -- logic, in a nice, strict, orderly way.
Brains are not cookie-cutter, each one is different, and it takes something special to make a genius. Testing for geniuses is kinda like hunting for guy-eyecandy with your very straight male friend. Sure, he may pick out one or two that he can tell are hot,

...Actually, I always thought that the IQ test was pretty interesting. Just because there are different tests, and how they're SUPPOSED to work. But, you're right, getting a high score doesn't really mean anything. Logic versus creativity. And combining/tempering the two... that's something special. But the IQ test, again... a lot of it might just be comprehension of the problems. If they don't have the necessary vocabulary, it doesn't matter if they're capable of answering the question or not. It's based on the test taker's perception, not whoever's defining terms above the person's head to 'help' them.
...then again, there are the people who brag about their IQ tests and they have no idea what the scoring MEANS.

The IQ tests are, yes, interesting. Although -- vocabulary? Most of the ones I've taken don't have anything I wouldn't know at, oh, third grade or so. Maybe my memory's not good, though -- I haven't taken any in a while. I agree on the comprehension, though; some people simply *can't* comprehend how the test works, I think, because their brain doesn't work like that.
And gah, the gifted programs. I have problems with the gifted programs, be they GATE or Honors or AP. They just don't seem to do what they should be doing, ever -- both in getting the smart kids in, and in teaching those kids to be smarter.
This is like, Our Thoughts on Geniuses, Let Us Show You Them, kinda. XD
Huh. I've only taken two IQ tests (and didn't remember afterwards), but I know that the more comprehensive of the two WAS the better test- better questions, patterns, different results layouts, etc- had Too Many Big Words. I did fine, but my younger brother, who's a helluva lot smarter than I am, would fail because he doesn't read well. He just doesn't. He MAKES things. Takes 'em apart, puts 'em back together... puzzles, machines, whatever.
'...because their brain doesn't work like that.LOL. Sorry. I read that at first as, "Their brain doesn't work." WHOOPS

"Let me say it again. Straight A's does not a genius make. " uh... no. straight A's means you know how to give the teachers what they want.
"The best language teacher I've had (versus two Spanish teachers and a French teacher) taught Latin, a dead language. How sad is that?" Latin is useful if you're going into law or medical.
Latin is useful if you're going into law or medical. Heh. It's just that- as a dead language- the fact that the teacher was better than the teacher of the modern languages was really really sad. Then again, it might actually be expected given the dedication that I'd expect from someone who'd studied a dead language to that extent.
Aheh. I'm dead set on law enforcement. xD So, that works?
