Hello livejournal, a question: has anyone ever bought a new battery for an ibook or similar from ebay? They all seem to come from Hong Kong. At 1/3 the price of those from the Apple Store is this wise, or nay?

Yes (iBook), and it was rubbish and held less than two hours' charge at its peak and then died completely a few months later.

go with the mac shop. you get what you pay for.
I took my macbook in to get the battery replace and they only charged me £60 and replaced my keyboard for free. book in with a mac genius and get them to put the battery in so its all on file.

Thanks Laura, I'm gonna give that a go. They will laugh at my spacebar-less keyboard and frayed power cable but t'will be good to get it vaguely working again.
