similar thing happened to me. I emailed my professor about which textbooks to buy months ago and bought the book and this email he just sent me a couple days ago told everyone that we need the newer edition which is about $100 more expensive.
I found the book online later as a pdf but I'm gonna be so pissed if I'm ever screwed over for having the older edition.
