I'll admit it. I started crying.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya is the best thing that Kyoto Animation has done, ever. Scratch that. It's one of the best anime movies made in recent history. The story was amazing in the novel, but the animation of Kyon's choice proves that Kyoto Animation was and always will be the right ( Read more... )

SO MUCH KYONISM EVERYWHERE. I actually wasn't as big of a Kyonist as I am now when I first finished watching S1, but when I read the light novels and got to Disappearance, I was just like, THAT'S IT, KYON IS GOD. Especially at the end when he gets down on his knees and tells Yuki that the Data Overmind can go fuck itself hahaha.

at the end of the movie i turned to my brother and i was like, "kyon is the most powerful person in the universe."

and he paused a beat and said, "... well, yeah."

ahhhh fffffffjslkdjfjgksjdlkfg i just

KYON CHOOSES THE WORLD
thus the world continues to exist

lol wait i phrased that wrong

KYON CHOOSES HARUHI.

it doesn't even really matter to me whether or not he's god (though you can make a pretty strong case for it ahaha), the fact that things align in such a way that he is able to make that choice. and that he does make the choice he makes...! fffffff so good so good so so satisfying

(Confession: I was almost on the verge of watching all of Haruhi Suzumiya six times in the past year alone, and every single time, I was deterred by Mikuru lkdj;flnlke;ran; but ONE DAY I WILL GET PAST HER... ONE DAY)

I agree that this makes me want to watch the series! :o I actually watched 4-5 eps I think, but it was the season that is a re-release of S1 only in a different order? I'm not sure how one is supposed to watch it XD

Oh! yes, they rereleased S1 and S2 as an integrated whole. Hmmm, I've never watched them in the re-release order, and for me part of the appeal of S1 was the out of order way? So I'd still recommend watching S1 in broadcast order and then S2 separately. But one day I'll watch it in rerelease order, since the real reason I like watching S1 in broadcast order is because Someday in the Rain only works as an ending, not as a middle episode, and the Adventures of Mikuru is the most perfect WTF WTF WTF beginning. But watching it rerelease order definitely makes more sense since KyoAni can't fuck with the chronology then.

So it's up to you: to experience the craziness that we all did, do it 2006 (S1) in broadcast order and then S2. For a coherent story that's easier to follow, watch it the rerelease order with the integrated epiosdes :D

*completely agrees with everything*

I worry I'm annoying my friends too much, it doesn't take much for me to switch into "OH MY GOD DISAPPEARANCE WAS SO PERFECT I CANNOT EVEN, GUYS YOU NEED TO WATCH THIS RIGHT NOW IT WAS AMAZING SERIOUSLY IT WAS GREAT I mean I hope you like it as much as I did I REALLY ENJOYED ALL OF IT BRB GOING TO LISTEN TO THE SOUNDTRACK AND GET TEARY-EYED AGAIN"

But it was just so. Amazing :< and that scene was absolutely my favourite in the whole movie, I remember sitting there the first time I watched it just being completely overwhelmed at how much I was just... intensely loving it, you know? Augh the whole experience of watching the movie akjkldfklf kfjsdsf kl lfksdjsd I got to see it at a cinema in Scotland, the European premiere... the love in the room was so amazing, I've never been to any big gatherings of anime fans, but... the whole sold-out cinema being full of Haruhi fans who had come from far and wide? (It was a four-hour train journey there and back for me, but I hear some people had come over from ( ... )

Disappearance was so, so perfect. I was angry originally that they didn't animate Disappearance in S2, but now I'm really thankful they made it a theatrical release because it works much better as a whole story and not broken up into little pieces. It kind of makes me hope they'll do Snowy Mountain Syndrome as an OVA as well.

THE CLASSROOM SCENE, OMG, when he's questioning himself through the window, and the burning words, just so fucking amazing. Also that sounds like a great experience. I wish I could be in a whole cinema of Haruhiists. :(

Yes to all of this. This was not a series that I ever expected to make me have feelings, but oh my god, these feelings are now relentless. Kyonism. *_____*

W-WHAT IS THIS FEELING...!! :D

arboretum will attest, I am like the world's biggest Kyonist ever. Every single time I talk about Haruhi Suzumiya as a canon, it always comes back to me saying AND KYON IS GOD, HE'S GOD, THEY'VE TOLD US HE'S GOD SINCE DAY ONE. It's what I was convinced of going into the series completely blind, but then reading the WMG entry on TVTropes and actually reading the original light novels have cemented that opinion, haha.
