Cathy! So I follow Manga Bookshelf and when I was checking my RSS feeds today, I saw your post, read the bit about you, and was like *squint squint is this who I think it is?* so I had to come over to your journal to check.
I haven't seen Maison Ikkoku but it's one of those classic anime I always want to get around to, and now this is added impetus.
:D :D :D :D HI NANCE HI NANCE HI NANCE. Is there any anime you would like me to review, haha, because I am looking for suggestions of adaptations to compare. I might do Antique Bakery next, but I don't want this to be like, A COLLECTION OF ANIME THAT I HAVE SEEN AND WISH TO TALK ABOUT AT GREAT LENGTHS BECAUSE I AM NARCISSISTIC.
I would throw myself into a frenzy if you reviewed Antique Bakery. YOU HAVE THE POWER OF THE POST. YOU CAN BE AS NARCISSISTIC AS YOU LIKE. Plus Antique Bakery has gone through so many cross-format adaptations that it would be really rich to talk about all the different ways the story and the dynamics have been interpreted, and how faithful or divergent they are from Yoshinaga's original text.
other suggestions, off the top of my head:
- Revolutionary Girl Utena - Azumanga Daioh (prob. not a great suggestion because the manga is not exactly brimming with richness, as much as I love it). - Nodame Cantabile - X/1999, Cardcaptor Sakura, xxxHOLiC, anything CLAMP really
I HAVE ACTUALLY SEEN THE JDRAMA VERSION a;lsdfkja;sd f;salfkdj; GOD IT WAS SO RANDOM, TACKEY PLAYING EIJI, so much hilariousness.
oh god, I want to review RGU but the anime blogs I've read have ANALYZED IT TO DEATH OMG and in far more intelligent ways than I have, so I'm terrified to join the fray. I'm actually juuuuuust now finishing rewatching Azumanga Daioh after wanting to make a post about how much more I love Minami-ke and how that's basically heresy in the Church of Otaku, so you're right, that is an excellent choice :D
NODAME~ I've yet to actually see it, really! oh god do you think could compare X with its movie counterpart a;lsdfj;asldfkja;slfkdj;aslfdkj so much lulz. I really wanted to watch xxxholic but it's.... so.... long... (she says, as she did her inaugural column on a 96 episode epic from Takahashi)
