I just now discovered some CD-RWs (YES, CD-RWS) that I burned in 2001, which apparently consisted of all my computer files when my father decided he was going to reformat the family computer. Among them: - an oden fishing game
( Read more... )
Ugh, SAILOR MOON. I was sickly in love with that show in junior high (Sailor Jupiter was my FAVE). And MIDI files! Blast from the past.
I still have ZIP DISKS somewhere, which I am ashamed to admit - I think that might be worse that CD-RWs. (AND FLOPPY DISKS. Why do I save these things? I don't even have a computer - or know of one - that can still read these things. Maybe they're like little computer-age time capsules that I'll open when I'm 80 and find awful photos of NSYNC and mediocre anime.)
I had the same problem re: floppy disks and wound up buying an external floppy drive that plugged in via USB port.
(Cathy, commenting because I need to repost this forever and ever, this is the kind of shit that was on my floppies... (along with atrocious GW and pokemon fanfic):
Ah... I see...? That's not like that today though haha I have a bunch of software that I would need to back up and... I think that was the same in 2001? Wait no... did I even have a computer in 2001?
It's kind of scary ): I'm scared that it's going to be so catchy that I can constantly be scared by it because it'll be in my head
I'm mostly tickled by the Peach Girl music videos. I want to read Ura Peach Girl really really badly now. Sae! Kairi! Adachi! That other guy!
Do you know how many floppy disks I have with DOS-based games? SO MANY. But I still have my precious Commodore 128, so that's alright.
In a similar "blast from the past" moment when I recently went through my physical CD collection to pick some to import into iTunes, and stumbled upon an almost complete collection of the German Digimon soundtracks. Never mind the mix CD with various German openings for anime shows, including but not limited to the German Sailor Moon opening (techno!), Attack No. 1, Rose of Versailles, Heidi, and Ganbare, Kickers! I know that every time I mention that last one to my best friend, we go "Mario! Viktor!" in unison. Same for the Attack No. 1 opening. (Mila kann lachen, wie die Sonne über'm Fujiyama, .... etc.)
I don't think I've ever read Peach Girl. OR watched DNA2, come to think of it. a;sklfdj THAT OTHER GUY.
Oh maaaan floppy disks. I probably still have my old poetry backed up somewhere on a floppy!
I HAVE THAT SAME EXPERIENCE WITH MIX CDS. The other day I realized I had Chala Head Chala burned on a CD along with old Megumi Hayashibara songs and I was like ....?

Hi, are you me? I can still quote from DBZ. My best friend had the habit of doodling quotes and headshots of the charas (Vegeta was her fave) all over my homework planner, ahaha. I would hum the themes (esp. Chala Head Chala) at her when she got called on in maths. JOY.
I think Slayers was my first anime where I actually knew what an anime was. Zelgadis, my ~forevercrush~. I still have it, subtitled on VHS.
I...might still have all of those songs (except the last one) in mp3 format...and they might still be on my iPod...
I definitely still have a bunch of old SM and GW music vids on my HD as well as lots of random SM pictures on floppy disks with no way to read them. :)
I just had to pop in and say that I had such a huge collection of Anime MIDIs too. Including 3x3 Eyes, which I never even watched, and I Wish from Fushigi Yuugi, which had this beautiful doleful music box sound. 8D
And I am oddly mesmerized by that video. Ooo-aaah.
I had to explain to someone today what a MIDI was! And I was like YOU ARE OLDER THAN ME, YOU SHOULD BE MORE NOSTALGIC... I also have a midi of the 3x3 Eyes themes, haha, and I don't think I even know what it's about.
Sometimes the lyrics "count your blessings because haven't you heard/ these are the best days of your life" circles around in my head, over and over.
