what to say when they ask you why you write poetry III
February 2011

Hold everything you touch. -- "Shutter Dove", by Carrie Rudzinski

It was February and I braved the weather,
the roads frozen over with December's rain,
to listen to two women poets read their work.
& one more, plus two poems by Kimiko Hahn. )

I wish I had something more meaningful to say than these are all beautiful, because then I would pick through them, unraveling lines and marveling at meanings, but just suffice to say, for now, that they are beautiful, and they do what I think poetry should do. Which is to startle me and wake me from a quiet sleep.

♥ Nancy, Nancy~ why are you always so sweet to me. Thank you for reading my blithering attempts at poetry.

Also I really wanted to post this one poem by Kimiko Hahn, called "The Izu Dancer", but I couldn't find it online ;___; but I think you would really like it, because it is about identity, and translation, and the loss of meaning in words, and also, of course, love.

Well, poetry is my first love and it is no hardship to read an elegantly crafted origami layer of a poem.

I'll have to check out Kimiko Hahn! "The Izu Dancer" sounds fantastic.

oh, cathy.

i love all these poems, but i love the second one the most. arthur get off the inter - no, but seriously, thank you for reminding me that we are all beautiful in our self-righteous isolation. and all of us deserve grand romantic gestures.

If only the world was made of grand romantic gestures, and we had no need for self-righteous isolation, only happy companionship. ♥
