So, now I have a laptop and all my years of not having a computer before and of not becoming computer literate are hitting me. Does anyone know what is a good format for music or a good music player. Hyphen and brent have already pointed out pandora but i find that converting from wma to mp3s is annoying. So, before i rip anymore cds what do i rip

you can just use Windows Media player, and under options, change the ripping format to mp3 instead of wma.

I think the official place under options is ripping options (not sure though since it's right off the top of my head). That's what I did though.

Music snobs (and pirates) used to use Exact Audio Copy piped into LAME using Alt Preset Extreme (which is variable bit rate mp3).

Basically download Exact Audio Copy and under the mp3 options there's some way to set a preset switch for option. Either Alt Preset Standard or Extreme is fine.
